OUM and TM One sign Memorandum of Understanding to establish hyperconnected digital ecosystem
TM One Hyperconnected Ecosystem provides end-to-end digital solutions that enable Education 4.0 for Malaysian higher learning institutions
TM One, the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), today inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Open University Malaysia (OUM) to establish a digital transformation journey for the university’s campus in Kuala Lumpur.
The agreement was signed by Ahmad Taufek Omar, Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer, TM One and Prof. Dato’ Dr Mansor Fadzil, President/Vice-Chancellor, OUM.
The MoU is aimed at delivering and implementing four (4) clusters of digital transformation initiatives for OUM encompassing mobile connectivity via unifi Mobile packages for students and administration staff; smart services solution - Smart Campus Management, scalable ICT solutions via TM cloud services; and TM One Collaboration tools for unified communication Solutions for OUM administration and its students.
Speaking at the event, Ahmad Taufek said, “This MoU marks the beginning of a synergy between TM One and OUM for more future collaborations. The potential areas may encompass beyond the four clusters to help create greater value for OUM to remain competitive in the education industry. The solutions will enable OUM to optimise its operational costs and improve its energy efficiency. We hope these smart solutions will also encourage more engagement and interactions between the OUM campus community, whilst providing enhanced students’ and visitors’ experience at OUM. Our Hyperconnected Ecosystem offers advanced digital solutions for educational institutions in Malaysia to embark on their digital transformation. As an enabler of Malaysia’s Digital Nation aspirations, TM through TM One, will continue to play an active role in nation building, particularly in the education sector.”
Meanwhile, Prof Dato’ Dr Mansor said, “This collaboration will provide many advantages, especially for learners and staff in our 33 Learning Centres nationwide. Because a significant portion of learning takes place online, the unifi MobileTM plans offered at such competitive rates will make it easy for learners to access their course materials, interact with facilitators and peers as well as keep track of their studies via the learning management system, myINSPIRE, without needing to worry about WiFi availability, no matter where they may be.”
Through this collaboration, TM One will be offering unifi Mobile corporate package for OUM employees and students at RM59 per month.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has today announced the completion of its new fibre optic network hub or point of presence (PoP) project phase one (1) installations, across northern region, Sabah and Sarawak. The launch ceremony, which was officiated by YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital, took place at SMK Padang Terap, Kuala Nerang, Kedah. Also present were Dato’ Haji Pkharuddin Bin Haji Ghazali, Director-General of Education and Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Bin Mentek, Secretary-General, Ministry of Communications and Digital. PoP is a place where different devices connect to each other and to the internet. In simple terms, PoP brings fibre closer to users. By setting up PoP locations near schools, people in rural and remote areas can get better and faster internet services in their homes, instead of relying on mobile internet. This will improve internet access and connectivity for more people in the community. During the ceremony, YB Fahmi highlighted the significant benefits and opportunities that the new PoPs would bring. The new PoPs represent a major step forward in the Government's efforts to narrow the digital gap and promote digital inclusion across Malaysia. A total of 4,370 PoPs had been planned under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) where 4,323 PoPs will be installed near rural schools and 47 PoPs near industrial area. Phase one (1) of the project, involves 677 sites and the remaining will be implemented under phase two (2) over the span of three (3) years, 2022-2025. A total of 233 PoP circuits were installed under phase 1, with 100% completion achieved by TM, ahead of other industry players. “We are thrilled to see the progress and achievements of this project, which will bring significant benefits and opportunities to the community, including improved internet quality, economic development and the development of new infrastructures,” said Shazurawati Abdul Karim, Executive Vice President of TM One. PoP will create a more balanced and inclusive regional development, boosting the growth of new technologies like 5G and future generations of communication technologies. Through this initiative, users in TM's PoP area have now reached over 9,000 and are increasing. A total of 58 of its users are schools that have subscribed to Unifi services. The widespread internet accessibility will not only help to develop the rural economy but more importantly allow learning materials to be downloaded, to improve the quality of education in schools, equipping the future generations with a wealth of knowledge. “As the nation's telecommunications leader, and enabler of Digital Malaysia, TM is committed to support the nation's development agenda through the benefits brought by hyperconnectivity and digital solutions, which will accelerate digital adoption and new economic growth,” added Shazurawati. “The presence of PoP can attract technology companies, start-ups and other businesses that require a high-speed internet connection to operate. This can create more job opportunities, increase innovation, and stimulate economic growth in local communities,” concluded Shazurawati. The collaboration between TM and the Government demonstrates the shared commitment to deliver digital inclusivity throughout Malaysia. For phase two (2) of PoP project, TM has been awarded with 174 sites in the central region. This phase is expected to further boost digital connectivity and economic development for Malaysia.
TM ONE COLLABORATES WITH PLANMALAYSIA TO ACCELERATE LOCAL SMART CITIES
KUALA LUMPUR, 29 NOVEMBER 2023 – TM One, the enterprise and government sector business solutions arm of TM, has entered into a collaboration with PLANMalaysia to enable local city councils harness smart innovations and create sustainable, efficient, and connected urban communities. The collaboration is the next phase in TM One’s efforts to accelerate the nation’s smart city aspirations and improve urban living across the country. As part of this collaboration, 29 local councils that were awarded as part of the Malaysia Smart City Recognition Programme during World Town Planning Day 2023, will have access to TM One’s Proof of Concept trials (POCs). Spanning a selection from TM One’s smart services suite, the POCs allow councils to test solutions suited to their localities, enabling them to make empowered decisions in their smart city development efforts. Shazurawati Abd Karim, TM One’s Executive Vice President said, “TM One has always been at the forefront of enabling the country’s smart city initiatives, helping councils nationwide push the boundaries of urban living through smart innovations. Among our recent success stories were Smart City projects in Ipoh, Pengerang, Seberang Prai, Kulai, Port Dickson and Subang Jaya, which experienced reduced time in traffic, lower carbon emissions, and improved response efficiency through solutions such as TM One’s Smart Traffic Management and Smart Surveillance.” Building on these successes, TM One will be offering POCs for the following services: 1. Unified Enforcement System – automation and insight analysis of various local council operation enforcement services that help local councils manage larger communities better; 2. Smart City App – a one stop app for local councils’ e-government services; and 3. Smart Workforce – a system that helps local councils manage field teams in real-time. These services will help councils in their journey towards becoming full-fledged smart cities, as well as improve overall efficiency in their operations and services to their communities. “Through these POCs, we aim to help the government implement Smart Services in more locations, bringing these technologies closer to everyday Malaysians and improving their way of life. TM ONE & SIRIM ACADEMY PARTNERSHIP BOOSTS CYBERSECURITY AND AI GOVERNANCE IN MALAYSIA
KUALA LUMPUR, 6 November 2025 – TM One, TM’s enterprise and government sector solutions arm, has signed a strategic Collaboration Agreement with SIRIM Academy, a subsidiary of SIRIM Berhad, to advance Malaysia’s capabilities in information security, artificial intelligence (AI) governance, and workforce certification. The partnership combines TM One’s expertise in cybersecurity and managed services with SIRIM Academy’s recognised strengths in training, consultancy, standards development and personnel certification. Together, the two organisations will support enterprises and government agencies in closing compliance gaps, adopting global best practices, and building resilience in the digital economy. The collaboration focuses on certification and workforce readiness, supporting organisations to comply with Information Security Management Systems (ISMS, ISO/IEC 27001) and the newly introduced AI Management System (ISO/IEC 42001:2023). TM One will provide operational security capabilities for monitoring and incident response, while SIRIM Academy will deliver professional certification programmes aligning with standards requirements and national frameworks. To ensure compliance, organisations can further leverage TM One’s Managed Security Services including its Security Operations Centre (SOC), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Managed Detection and Response (MDR), and Threat Intelligence, which offers continuous protection. The agreement also facilitates joint go-to-market opportunities, with TM One or SIRIM Academy leading client engagements as needed. The collaboration was formally made through an exchange of documents between Shanti Jusnita Johari, TM One’s Executive Vice President, and Dr. Mohd Bakri bin Jali, SIRIM Academy’s Chief Executive Officer (Covering), symbolising the start of a shared commitment to advance Malaysia’s digital trust and governance. Shanti Jusnita Johari said, “This partnership with SIRIM Academy reaffirms TM One’s position as a trusted digital enabler for enterprises and government. By embedding training, consultation and certification into our secure digital infrastructure, we ensure compliance is not only achieved on paper but sustained in practice.
