Kuala Lumpur / Singapore, 12 January 2026 – TM Nxera, the joint venture between Telekom Malaysia (TM) and Nxera, Singtel’s regional data centre arm, has signed a multi-year electricity supply agreement with Tenaga Nasional (TNB). This agreement secures 280MW of power for TM Nxera’s upcoming state-of-the-art, hyperconnected, AI-ready data centre campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, which is scheduled to begin the first phase of commercial operations in 2026.

Marking this milestone, senior leaders from TM, TM Nxera and TNB came together for a document exchange ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, underscoring the strategic partnership to support the development of TM Nxera’s data centre. TM was represented by Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Group Chief Executive Officer, and Khairul Liza Ibrahim, Executive Vice President, TM Global, alongside TM Nxera representatives Bill Chang, Chairman; Mahathir bin Said, Chief Executive Officer; and Benedict Kwok, Chief Operating Officer. TNB was represented by Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Bin Megat Hassan, Chief Executive Officer, and Datuk Kamal Arifin Bin A. Rahman, Chief Retail Officer, reflecting the importance of reliable and scalable power infrastructure in enabling Malaysia’s digital and AI-driven growth.

Mahathir bin Said said, “As reliable and sustainable energy is the key to powering Malaysia’s digital economy and AI ambitions, this agreement with Tenaga Nasional is a critical step forward for our state-of-the-art, green digital infrastructure in Johor. TM Nxera is more than just a data centre venture, it will be a strategic catalyst to accelerate the adoption of AI, cloud and advanced technologies across industries. With 280MW of secured power, we are enhancing our capabilities to support Malaysia’s transformation, attracting global technology investments and fuelling a thriving ecosystem for industrial growth."

The new cloud-enabled Tier 3 data centre campus is one of the flagship investments within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and is poised to further strengthen Malaysia’s position as a leading regional hub for cloud and AI innovation. Designed to support large-scale AI workloads with scalable capacity of more than 200MW, the facility will serve as a cornerstone of the country’s digital infrastructure, supporting hyperscalers, AI application providers and enterprises to accelerate digital transformation and cloud adoption across the region.

The data centre campus will feature advanced liquid cooling technologies to support large-scale AI deployment and deliver exceptional performance efficiency. It is designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, integrating energy and water-efficient technologies to maximise resource efficiency. Enterprises and hyperscalers will gain cost-effective access to green and secure infrastructure, without having to build and manage their own facilities. Connectivity for the data centre campus will be backed by TM and Singtel Group’s Digital InfraCo subsea cable networks, ensuring robust global reach and low latency network performance. Together, these capabilities will create one of the most advanced digital infrastructure platforms in Southeast Asia, powering the next wave of AI innovation, cloud adoption and industrial growth.

TM Strengthens National Talent Pipeline with RM25 Million through Yayasan TM Future Leaders Scholarships 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 August 2025 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”), through its foundation arm Yayasan TM (YTM), has awarded RM25 million in scholarships under the Yayasan TM Future Leaders Scholarship 2025, reaffirming the Group’s steadfast commitment to nurturing talent, supporting education and nation building. The scholarships will support students pursuing strategic fields including Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science and Analytical Economics at TM’s wholly owned Multimedia University (MMU), local public universities (IPTA), as well as leading institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Singapore. Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM and Deputy Chairman of Yayasan TM said, “At TM, we are committed to exemplifying how success and greater purpose can go hand in hand, as demonstrated by the positive impact we create for our communities and the nation. We are proud to support their journey as we move together towards our aspiration of becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030.” The 2025 scholarship cycle for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers attracted more than 10,300 applications nationwide, a reflection of the programme’s growing reach and reputation. Applicants went through a rigorous, transparent selection process which included stringent academic screening, online aptitude and competency tests, and final interviews conducted by Behavioural Event Interview (BEI)-certified panels. The recipients were celebrated at a presentation ceremony held recently at Dewan Tun Canselor, Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya, attended by esteemed parents, TM and MMU leaders, and a representative from the Ministry of Higher Education. Ainol Shaharina Sahar, Director of Yayasan TM remarked, “We are proud to welcome these bright young minds into the YTM family. Beyond financial sponsorship, the Future Leaders recipients will also embark on a comprehensive, end-to-end development programme designed to shape holistic and well-rounded individuals, while equipping them with future-ready skills, both in digital proficiency and employability. Telecommunications operators continue to support home-based teaching and learning with free 30GB internet per month

Telcos also providing free WiFi connectivity for students at selected PPR communities and have extended operating hours of Pusat Internet Komuniti PETALING JAYA, 10 FEBRUARY 2021 – Telecommunications operators Celcom Axiata Berhad ("Celcom"), Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd ("Digi"), Maxis Berhad ("Maxis"), U Mobile Sdn Bhd ("U Mobile"), and Telekom Malaysia Berhad ("TM") through unifi Mobile, are continuously supporting the rakyat's learning needs with free 30GB Productivity Internet per month (free 1GB internet daily), for learning and productivity tools as well as for news website browsing until 30 April 2021. Since April 2020, all active Postpaid and Prepaid customers of the respective operators have been able to enjoy 30GB Productivity Internet per month, except for social media, gaming, video and music streaming, over and above customers' monthly data allocation from their existing plans. Customers are advised to refer to their respective operators for more information on how to access the daily free Internet offers and the list of services included. Furthermore, telco operators will continue to support the rakyat at selected People's Housing Projects (PPR) by providing free WiFi and extending operating hours of Pusat Internet Komuniti (PIK) during these challenging times.  A total of 130 PPR and 54 PIK nationwide will focus on supporting students from B40 families with free connectivity that aims to facilitate Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) due to the Movement Control Order (MCO). In addition to the free 30GB internet per month, the operators have also provided a special prepaid data pass for SPM and STPM students, as well as students in higher learning institutions. The prepaid data pass offers 15GB data per month for as low as RM20 per month and the passes are available for eligible students from 6 January 2021 until end of April 2021.    The joint industry initiatives are part of its continuous relief efforts driven together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia as well as the Permai Aid Package as recently announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Telecommunication operators will also continue to offer free and unlimited access to a range of information-related apps and services to ensure Malaysians stay updated on the latest credible news on COVID-19. The list includes MySejahtera and MyTrace apps, and important health websites and hotlines such as the CPRC Hotline, Ministry of Health and World Health Organization websites, and more.

PETRONAS AND TM DRIVE SUCCESSFUL PRIVATE 5G NETWORK DEPLOYMENT AT PETRONAS LNG COMPLEX BINTULU

BINTULU, 9 AUGUST 2024 – Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in collaboration with TM inaugurated a Private 5G network at the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak – signalling further advancements in connectivity and efficiency for the energy industry. The event was attended by Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo, Deputy Minister of Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Liwan Lagang, and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), the nation’s 5G network provider. Following the historic launch of Malaysia's first Private 5G network for enterprise at PETRONAS’ Regasification Terminal Sungai Udang (RGTSU) in 2022, the new Bintulu location is one of four of PETRONAS’ sites installed with the technology. The PETRONAS LNG Complex is one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in a single location with a production capacity of 29.8 million tonnes per annum, and deployment of the 5G network is expected to improve productivity and increase operational efficiency across critical production processes. In his speech, Gobind Singh Deo emphasised the role of 5G technology in the energy sector transformation, saying, “5G is amongst the key technologies that is gaining importance in the energy sector. The technology, which offers ultra-high speed coupled with low latency communication between control hubs, production sites and vessels, helps to streamline the growing complexity in operational activities. Increased use of 5G-enabled intelligent systems such as industrial IoT, drones, robotics, extended reality (XR), and artificial intelligence (AI) enhances operational efficiency and safety. “Energy companies around the world are racing to modernise their operations, and I applaud PETRONAS, TM and DNB for taking the lead in digitalising Malaysia’s energy sector.” Meanwhile, PETRONAS Senior Vice President of LNG Assets Abang Yusuf Abang Puteh said, “PETRONAS is positioning itself at the forefront of the global technological race while meeting the evolving demands of the energy landscape. The integration of 5G with the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and automation will streamline workflows, increase productivity by automating data collection, while enhancing safety across all levels.” Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM’s Group CEO said, “This private 5G deployment is the next phase in TM and PETRONAS’ long-standing partnership to future-proof its businesses for a sustainable future. Leveraging on advanced technologies like AI, the Enterprise 5G application is expected to yield optimum operational efficiencies for its highly secure reliable connection, real-time monitoring and analytics as well as remote maintenance. “Furthermore, this collaboration will further catalyse digital innovation and industry adoption which are key to ensure business resiliency in the future and this intent is also aligned with TM’s aspiration of becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030,” he added. Looking ahead, PETRONAS and TM aim to explore opportunities to transform the energy industry through potentially expanding the distribution of Private 5G networks to newer sites for greater integration and efficiency.
