TM One and SME Bank collaborate to deliver technology funding to SMEs under PENJANA
TM One and SME Bank sign agreement to provide technology funding to SMEs via SME Technology Transformation Fund (STTF)
TM One, the business and public sector solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad (SME Bank), an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative to offer technology funding for its Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) customers to accelerate their business and digital transformation.
The MoU was signed by Ahmad Taufek Omar, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, TM One while SME Bank was represented by Aria Putera Ismail, its Group President/Chief Executive Officer.
The SME Technology Transformation Fund (STTF), is a fund set up between SME Bank and the Ministry of Finance to offer financing assistance of up to RM3.0 million to local SMEs. This is part of the Government's Pelan Jana Semula Ekonomi Negara (PENJANA) economic stimulus package to provide financial assistance to SMEs in adopting digitalisation and/or automation in their business operations.
Commenting on the collaboration, Ahmad Taufek said, "We are excited to work hand-in-hand with SME Bank to accelerate digital adoption amongst our customers particularly in the SME segment. This is in support of the Government's efforts under PENJANA to execute key initiatives to help SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our aim is to assist SMEs in addressing real business challenges and issues that they are currently facing with the digital solutions available. We have put in place dedicated teams and solutions to enable our customers to realise the full potential of their digital opportunities. Our Professional Services are a consultative approach in helping SMEs to understand how to plan their digital transformation based on their unique business requirements."
Meanwhile, Aria said, "With a fund size of RM500 million, STTF is expected to directly assist SME entrepreneurs to achieve higher productivity, process efficiency, efficient cost management and greater market penetration. As at 11 November 2020, SME Bank has approved 18 applications worth RM36.55 million under the STTF fund. SME Bank's role in encouraging the SMEs to adopt digital technology was further enhanced with the introduction of ODELA, the first one-stop e-commerce platform backed by a Development Financial Institution (DFI), that enabled B2B entrepreneurs to make transactions and foster partnership across vast ecosystems. The Bank's wholesome approach in providing financing and entrepreneur development assistance further adds value and accelerate the development of digital economy thus boosting the nation's economic growth in this challenging time."
STTF is to be used for financing the purchases of IT solutions and services, technology support services, computer hardware and software, equipment and/or machinery and other intangible assets to enhance productivity and efficiency. SMEs as defined by the National Entrepreneur and SME Development Council (NESDC) are eligible to apply for STTF.

TM AND ZTE MALAYSIA ENTER INTO A STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO DEVELOP NEXT-GENERATION TECH THROUGH HYBRID CLOUD 5G CORE NETWORK
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd have entered into a new partnership to build a hybrid cloud 5G core network that is designed for future technologies and applications. Over the next three years, this strategic partnership will foster innovation and advancement of state-of-the-art technologies for TM’s 5G Core project, which includes bare metal containers, SDN-based architecture, hardware acceleration, CUPS, and 3-layer decoupling. Advancements in these technologies will propel the development of a converged, open, reliable, trusted and efficient 5G core network. This rollout is anticipated to transform and revolutionise the way that data will be processed and transmitted, which could significantly impact the development of future technologies and applications. Developing a high-capacity network will also address the rising need for network bandwidth and speed as Malaysia’s 5G adoption and ecosystem accelerates. The integration of this converged network will strengthen TM’s capabilities to provide seamless connectivity and exceptional network performance, serving a diverse range of industries, including healthcare, finance, transportation, and education. TM receives national recognitions for its continous efforts in Energy Management
The Company walked away with four (4) recognitions at the recent National Energy Awards 2020, organised by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA). Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) was recently bestowed with multiple recognitions for its continuous commitment and best practices in energy management at the National Energy Awards 2020, organised by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA). The accolades received by TM were: Rank Category Sub-category Building Winner Category I: Energy Efficiency Energy Management (Small Building) TM Node, Skudai, Johor Bahru Runner-up Category I: Energy Efficiency Energy Management (Large Building) Menara TM, Kuala Lumpur Special Awards Institute of Higher Education Multimedia University, Melaka Special Awards Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) TM Node, Bandar Tun Razak Commenting on the achievements, Badrul Hisham Ahmad, Vice President, Support Business, TM said: "We are humbled and honoured to receive these awards and would like to thank KeTSA for recognising our continued commitment to Energy Efficiency (EE) initiatives, which is part of our overall sustainability agenda. As such, our facilities are supported by Energy Saving Initiatives (ESI), which describes how we can improve energy-efficiency at network and non-network buildings. We also adopt sustainable practices for emissions management that adhere to regulatory standards. We conduct regular monitoring of the air, noise and water of areas surrounding our operations. We strive to consistently comply with the environmental monitoring limits stipulated by the Department of Environment (DoE) thus ensuring that our business does not harm nearby environment and communities. We have been continuously improving on our emissions and consumption policies, objectives, targets and strategies. Additionally, we monitor and measure activities that contribute to our carbon footprint, including energy use and waste production, resulting in a 7.5% reduction in overall GHG emissions for 2019. We also recorded a 7.4% reduction in energy consumption," Badrul elaborated. The annual National Energy Awards (NEA) highlights the development of ideas and best practices in driving the country's sustainable energy sector. The award recognises the efforts of the public and private sectors in energy innovation that manifests positive impact to the nation and all Malaysians. It acknowledges the adopters of energy efficiency technology and renewable energy in driving towards Malaysia's sustainable development aspirations. It is also the Government's strategic move to promote innovation in local technology, research and development (R&D) as well as to create awareness on a broad level across the different facets of society, in line with the country's aspiration to spur energy sector as the new area for economic growth. Previously in 2019, the National Energy Awards also honoured TM for the first time as the winner for Category I: Energy Efficiency under sub-category of Energy Management (Small & Medium Building). The award recognised energy saving initiatives at Menara TM, Melaka which include upgrading of conventional lighting to LED, chillers optimisation, reuse of ablution water for watering plant and installation of motion sensor lighting, among others.
