In addition, TM is also collaborating with Yayasan Hasanah to support the Tabung CERDIK initiative which was announced by the Government during the tabling of Budget 2021. The initiative will see government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) contribute RM150 million to provide laptops to 150,000 students in 500 schools, as a pilot project and is aimed at enabling PdPR. TM will be contributing connectivity and devices with an estimated value of over RM20 million. TM will contribute approximately 300 laptops worth RM500,000 while through unifi Mobile, TM will offer participating GLICs/GLCs the industry CERDIK mobile package which will be bundled with their device contributions. The MOE has recently announced that its new terrestrial dedicated TV channel, known as DidikTV KPM, will start its broadcast on Wednesday, 17 February 2021. Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: “Connectivity is crucial at this time as more Malaysians are at home; especially with most students having to learn remotely via PdPR. We hope that with the availability of free connectivity at these 60 PPRs and more than 1000 community internet centres, local communities especially students from the B40 families can attend classes and utilise online learning tools so that they won’t fall behind in their studies. They will be able to utilise unlimited data for learning applications and online classroom sessions, especially the candidates of the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) preparing for the examinations. Most importantly, they can stay safe and stay productive at home during the Movement Control Order (MCO).”
“We reiterate our support of the various Government and MCMC initiatives to address the digital gap especially among the low income groups, such as Tabung CERDIK. Apart from devices, students are in dire need of mobile connectivity that comes with unlimited data and affordable monthly subscription, which does not require frequent add ons or top-up when their quota has been utilised. The special unifi Mobile #BEBAS data package for SPM/STPM 2021 candidates and students of higher learning institutions, as well as the additional 1GB LTE daily data allowance, which has been in place throughout the MCO are to help Malaysians at this challenging time. We will continue to innovate our offerings to deliver seamless connectivity and an enhanced service experience to more Malaysians nationwide, in line with the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) action plan. As the enabler of Digital Malaysia, we remain committed to serve a more digital society, business and government,” added Imri.

Digitalisation done right is the way to go: unifi Business is primed to help them get back on their feet, come back stronger and achieve positive gains through its innovative digital solutions." According to industry analysts, building a strong digital presence is critical in today's connected era, the lack of which accounts for the failure of many MSMEs during the pandemic. Yusman added that unifi will be with MSMEs, guiding them on their digitalisation journey. "Our certified unifi Business Consultant team is another testament to our commitment to serve MSMEs. They are certified with the International Certification for Digital Literacy (ICDL) and will offer continuous support and guidance," said Yusman. "Our multiple business solutions for MSMEs demonstrate TM's support for the Government's initiatives, such as JENDELA and MyDIGITAL, and are aligned to the Group's role as the enabler of Digital Malaysia." As MSMEs represent 97.4% of overall business establishments in the country, they play a significant role in strengthening Malaysia's digital economy growth. In addition to the digital solutions, MSMEs can now enjoy up to 50% savings or get a RM5,000 matching grant, as part of the Pelan Jana Semula Ekonomi Negara (PENJANA) initiative announced by the Government in 2021. This is an opportunity for MSMEs to increase their productivity while reducing their operating cost. Better internet experience for Streamyx and unifi customers nationwide
TM Submits Plan to KKMM and MCMC On the back of the successful upgrade of 973,000 unifi customers to higher speeds, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today submitted a plan to the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to address the remaining 934,000 Streamyx and unifi customers to further increase the overall coverage and internet quality of the nation. The announcement of the plan was made by Tuan Haji Rosli Man, Chairman of TM Group, at the press conference in conjunction with Kembara Digital Malaysia held in Ipoh. Also present at the event were YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Communications and Multimedia; Dato’ Suriani Dato’ Ahmad, Secretary General of KKMM; Tuan Al-Ishsal Ishak, Chairman of MCMC; Dato’ Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM; and Imri Mokhtar, Chief Operating Officer, TM. TM intends to also seek support from Government of Malaysia for this implementation utilising existing funding to deliver better broadband services to rural and sub-urban areas, in line with the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP). TM will be addressing the copper network challenges via various technologies such as fibre, wireless and GigaWire in a network rollout which will involve a phased customer migration starting today until 2021. It is expected that 70% of these customers will be able to enjoy unifi services by end 2020. TM also announced a new entry level broadband package of up to 8Mbps at RM89 a month for residential customers. Meanwhile, existing Streamyx residential customers will enjoy this offer at RM69 a month. In addition, a wireless broadband alternative will be launched to address the issues faced by Streamyx customers today; while the network is being rolled out until 2021. Details will be announced very soon under its #khabarbaik programme. Tuan Haji Rosli said, “We are committed to resolve the Streamyx issues and believe that the plan is the way forward to address not only the limitation of the copper broadband network, but also to lay the foundation for a better internet experience for all existing and future customers nationwide. We look forward to a collaborative approach, working closely with the Government, Ministry and MCMC to effectively deliver high speed broadband experience towards realising Malaysia’s Digital Nation aspirations.” TM completed its internet upgrade programme in April 2019 with 973,000 unifi customers upgraded to 10 times the existing speed; 266,000 Streamyx customers in unifi coverage areas upgraded to unifi and 226,000 Streamyx customers in non-unifi coverage areas upgraded to 2 times existing speed where technology permits. This exercise has helped to uplift Malaysia’s position in global high speed connectivity rankings. In February 2019, the Speedtest Global Index by Ookla reported that fixed broadband download speeds in Malaysia increased by almost threefold to 70.18Mbps as compared to 22.26Mbps a year ago. Malaysia is now ranked 28th in the world as compared with 56th in 2017. Further, the MCMC has also reported that the number of fixed broadband subscriptions with download speeds of more than 100Mbps have risen tremendously from 150,000 in 2017 to 1.2 million subscribers in 2018.
