The future of 5G begins with TM! #bersamasama5G
The Company is ready to bring 5G to all Malaysians; Becomes the First Telco to Deploy Stand Alone (SA) network
As the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is embarking on delivering 5G infrastructure to the country by participating in the 5G Demonstration Project undertaken by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The demonstration project is for TM to test the new 5G features, explore the 5G technology system and assess the best way to deploy 5G infrastructure nationwide. The Company plans to test the implementation of a converged 5G core network which allows co-existence of Non-Stand Alone (NSA) and Stand Alone (SA) network. SA is the future of the 5G network deployment and this demonstration is crucial to fast track 5G implementation in the country.
Towards this end, TM through its enterprise and public sector business solutions arm, TM ONE, recently started its 5G demonstration in Subang Jaya, Selangor together with Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) to test its 5G solutions namely Smart Traffic Light, Smart Safety & Security and Smart Parking.
Besides that, TM is also expanding its 5G Demonstration Project in Pulau Langkawi, Kedah with the demonstration of more 5G use cases. The transmission of 5G service in Pulau Langkawi is going live today, where TM is deploying the first 5G SA network in the country.
Commenting on the milestone development, Dato' Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: "We are very excited to be part of this 5G Demonstration Project which demonstrates our capabilities to deploy 5G in Malaysia and to roll-out the first 5G SA network in the country. TM's aspiration is to deliver efficient and cost effective 5G infrastructure via infrastructure sharing approach, through the access regulations implemented by MCMC. This is by leveraging on its extensive fibre networks, including the submarine cables, telecommunications towers, and Cloud computing as well as ready Data Centres to support the 5G era in Malaysia. In terms of devices and use cases, its wholly-owned subsidiary, TM Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), is also developing and experimenting 5G related equipment to get ready for the upcoming 5G.
In addition, the Company plans to test and demonstrate the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing feature where it can dynamically share the same spectrum to support different mobile technologies, dynamically.
"This approach is expected to minimise duplication of network which will lead to cost reduction, translating the savings to lower prices for consumers/customers, be more environmentally friendly and allow the savings to be channeled for better innovation and improved customer services. We are open and ready to work together with other operators during this demonstration project. TM Strengthens National Talent Pipeline with RM25 Million through Yayasan TM Future Leaders Scholarships 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, 11 August 2025 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”), through its foundation arm Yayasan TM (YTM), has awarded RM25 million in scholarships under the Yayasan TM Future Leaders Scholarship 2025, reaffirming the Group’s steadfast commitment to nurturing talent, supporting education and nation building. The scholarships will support students pursuing strategic fields including Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science and Analytical Economics at TM’s wholly owned Multimedia University (MMU), local public universities (IPTA), as well as leading institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Singapore. Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM and Deputy Chairman of Yayasan TM said, “At TM, we are committed to exemplifying how success and greater purpose can go hand in hand, as demonstrated by the positive impact we create for our communities and the nation. We are proud to support their journey as we move together towards our aspiration of becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030.” The 2025 scholarship cycle for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers attracted more than 10,300 applications nationwide, a reflection of the programme’s growing reach and reputation. Applicants went through a rigorous, transparent selection process which included stringent academic screening, online aptitude and competency tests, and final interviews conducted by Behavioural Event Interview (BEI)-certified panels. The recipients were celebrated at a presentation ceremony held recently at Dewan Tun Canselor, Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya, attended by esteemed parents, TM and MMU leaders, and a representative from the Ministry of Higher Education. Ainol Shaharina Sahar, Director of Yayasan TM remarked, “We are proud to welcome these bright young minds into the YTM family. Beyond financial sponsorship, the Future Leaders recipients will also embark on a comprehensive, end-to-end development programme designed to shape holistic and well-rounded individuals, while equipping them with future-ready skills, both in digital proficiency and employability. We believe these young talents will go on to lead, inspire, and make a meaningful difference for Malaysia’s future.” Since its inception in 1994, Yayasan TM has supported more than 18,000 students through various education initiatives, with total investments of more than RM650 million to date. Through these efforts, TM continues to contribute towards building a stronger digital talent ecosystem while supporting equitable access to education. TM One Smart City Summit 2022: accelerating the transformation of townships into smart cities through partnership with local authorities
Themed ‘Solutions Built for Citizens’, TM ONE City LEAP Summit is TM’s initiative to support the Ministry of Housing and Local Government's (KPKT) aspirations in strengthening the ‘Liveable Malaysia’ agenda TM ONE, the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently hosted the City LEAP Summit 2022, with the aim of boosting smart city execution by local city and municipal councils (PBT). The two-day event, held in Genting Highlands, was the second time the summit was organised, and was attended by a total of 60 participants from 26 PBTs nationwide. Held under the theme of ‘Solutions Built for Citizens’, the summit, which focuses on sustainability and improving the quality of life for citizens, constitutes one of TM ONE’s initiatives to take Malaysia’s Smart City transformation forward by supporting the Ministry of Housing and Local Government's (KPKT) aspirations for a “Liveable Malaysia”. Lined up were curated programmes, aimed at empowering collaboration amongst local authorities to adopt new global trends and accelerate the implementation of smart cities in their respective localities. This event builds on the first City LEAP Summit in 2020, held in Langkawi, prior to the COVID-19 Movement Control Order (MCO). The inaugural event, among others, featured demonstrations of 11 Smart Services use cases on the island managed live from the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC). The 2022 summit was attended by Kamaruzaman Umar, Deputy Secretary General of KPKT who represented YB Dato' Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, the Minister of Housing and Local Government, together with several key representatives from the ministry and government bodies including the State Secretary’s Offices (SUK) and State Economic Planning Units (UPEN) from various states. This year's City LEAP Summit provided insights into best practices as well as use cases of effective planning and execution of a smart city with talks by Bapak Setiaji, Chief of Digital Transformation Office, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia who previously was the Head of Jakarta Smart City; and multi-award winning Smart Cities and IoT industry expert, Dr. Mazlan Abbas, who is also co-founder and CEO of FAVORIOT Sdn. Bhd. In addition, the event featured two comprehensive knowledge sharing sessions by Md Farabi Yussoff Md Yussoff, Head of Smart City Unit from PLANMalaysia (Federal Department of Town and Country Planning), and Mohamad Rejab Sulaiman, Vice President, Product & Innovation of TM ONE. They shared their expertise in the smart city standard benchmarks, integrated digital solutions and end-to-end technology for smart cities. In welcoming the delegates, Ir. Ts. Azizi A. Hadi, Chief Operating Officer of TM, said: “The development of a planned, integrated and holistic smart city is both timely and important. It helps to ensure that Malaysia is always in line with the current global urban development. Urban development extends beyond just making the city smarter; we must also ensure that the city leverages technology innovatively and creatively to provide a more liveable Malaysia.” He reiterated that with existing assets of the TM Group, including the widest broadband network infrastructure, submarine cables, telecommunication towers, cloud computing, data centres and cybersecurity, TM One is primed to provide world-class services and more effective solutions to local authorities. Besides that, with its services and solutions aligned with the objectives of the Malaysia Smart City Framework (MSCF), TM One is well positioned to assist PBTs in achieving most of the Smart City standard indicators (ISO 37122:2019). In his opening speech, Kamaruzaman said: “The success of a smart city lies in its implementation and requires coordinated efforts across three layers within the government; namely federal, state and local governments. Nevertheless, the participation of the private sector and industry players are equally important in the smart city ecosystem.” He also highlighted that public-private partnership is one of the most effective platforms to advance smart city implementation, and closer collaboration is needed between all relevant parties to accelerate smart city development in the country. Commenting on the summit, Shazurawati Abd Karim, Executive Vice President of TM One said: “Through this event, we aspire to produce a clear human-centred technology Smart City action plan that can be implemented and driven together between PBTs and TM One this year and beyond. We are passionate and ready to co-create a more comprehensive suite of smart city solutions, providing the best services to the people, supporting the business community while achieving environmental sustainability.” Other highlights of the City LEAP Summit 2022 include: TM One Smart City Solutions showcase throughout the summit including Smart Parking (SPARKS), Smart Street Light System (SLIMS), Smart Surveillance, Smart Water Management, Smart City Dashboard, Fleet Management System (FMS), and many more. The delegates also experienced these end-to-end smart city management and professional services through a mobile app, created specifically for this year’s programme. The Smart City Clinic, where subject matter experts and technologists from TM One had one-to-one sessions with the local authorities to delve into digital transformation action plans and solutions best suited to the needs of their city and community. During the opening ceremony, Kamaruzaman and all delegates also witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) and TM One for three services - Smart Traffic Analytics & Recognition System (STARS), Mobile Field Workforce (FORCE) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). In addition to executing the solutions, TM One will also provide professional and managed services to reduce the challenges encountered by MBI. Enabling greater digital inclusivity for Malaysians through Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap
Following Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil’s announcement on the Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap (Fixed Internet Broadband) yesterday, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is committed to support the Government’s aim to bring hyperconnectivity to key target communities. Focusing on segments most in need particularly B40, the elderly, OKU, army-police veterans, the delivery of Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap aligns with TM’s aspiration to empower a Digital Malaysia and meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly to promote inclusive and sustainable digital industrialization and innovation (Goal 9), as well as to reduce inequalities and empower social and economic inclusion for all (Goal 10). As a responsible corporate organisation, TM has a social accountability to making a positive impact for the community. Furthermore, the initiative will strengthen the nation’s digital inclusivity and bring digital access and opportunities to all layers of society. “Pakej Perpaduan comes at a crucial point of the nation’s recovery and complements other national initiatives such as Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah and Payung Rahmah to ensure a better quality of life for these communities. This serves as another means to combat the rising cost of living and keeps us on track to building Malaysia’s digital economy, despite the challenges anticipated,” said Dato’ Imri Mokhtar, TM’s Group Chief Executive Officer. “Bringing the power of the internet to underprivileged individuals and families facilitates their right to resources and knowledge online, gives them the opportunity to leverage on digital platform to run online business and can serve as a critical stepping stone for them to improve their lives. “While the Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap enables more affordable, unlimited fixed broadband and brings savings of RM480 to every eligible household, this complements the announced Pakej Perpaduan Prabayar Mudah Alih (prepaid mobile) in bringing ubiquitous connectivity for the key target individuals and household members. Both of these services will be offered through Unifi Home and Unifi Mobile respectively. This also reinforces TM’s Fixed-Mobile Convergence leadership, offering integrated fixed broadband, mobile services, data services, digital content and innovative solutions to every Malaysian, businesses and the Government”, he further added. Gearing up for the March 2023 start and availability for sign up until December 2023, TM will be working closely with the Ministry of Communication and Digital to fine tune the package details and rollout, ensuring the initiative effectively reaches its target communities.
