68 excellent YTM scholars honoured at ’Majlis Anugerah Kecemerlangan Akademik’ Article Header

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) via its foundation Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) recently recognised 68 outstanding graduates under its scholarship programme who have completed their studies at various levels from local as well as overseas universities at ’Majlis Anugerah Kecemerlangan Akademik 2018’.

16 of the graduates completed their studies with flying colours when they achieved first class honours in their respective courses. Meanwhile, TM’s university, Multimedia University (MMU), produced 44 graduates from the overall total, of which 12 graduated with first class honours.

The awards were presented by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob, Chairman of TM who is also the Chairman of YTM and Dato’ Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly, Managing Director / Group Chief Executive Officer, TM in a ceremony held at TM Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Also present at the ceremony were Nor Suhaimi Sulong, Acting Chief Human Capital Officer, TM, Abdul Hamid Hashim, Director of YTM and YTM Board of Trustees.

"I wish to congratulate the recipients for their outstanding achievement. YTM is indeed proud to be an education accelerator and career development provider for our graduates. I hope that these YTM scholars will continue to excel in their career and contribute effectively to TM in facing the challenges of the digital era,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Sulaiman.

“I’m also proud to see that most of the first class graduates recognised today are from our own university, MMU. As the trusted partner in key nation-building initiatives including education, we at TM Group remain committed to our role as the country’s key enabler in the delivery of innovative digital services and solutions for the education sector towards building a knowledge-based workforce for the country. In the imminent fourth industrial revolution or aptly known as the Industry 4.0 today, there is even greater need to produce not only competent talents in ICT, Multimedia and digital technologies, but also those in related disciplines who are able to embrace these technologies, in order to form a viable innovative ecosystem for the nation. Spearheading TM’s education cluster in the past 20 years, MMU plays a vital role in meeting this need by providing quality industry-relevant education and training, whilst ensuring a steady pipeline of highly capable talents with an entrepreneurial mindset to equip the nation,” he added.

MMU is always ready to prepare its graduates in fulfilling current and future industry needs. With its updated curriculum and dynamic learning environment, the university emphasises on a well-rounded education system in producing high quality of graduates.

TM through YTM has been supporting the graduates from foundation studies up to their first bachelor degree. Recipients of YTM scholarships will not only receive financial aid throughout their studies, but will be attending self-development programmes to enter the career world. Besides education, YTM also embarks on sustainable efforts to preserve our local heritage and culture.

Sultan Perak launches Telegraph Museum in Taiping, Perak

​Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) via its foundation, Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM), continues its role to preserve arts, culture and national heritage when the Company today officially launched its second museum - Telegraph Museum - the first of its kind in the country, in Taiping, Perak. The launch of the Telegraph Museum was graced by HRH the Sultan Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah. Also present at the launch were HRH Sultanah of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja Di Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain together with Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Sulaiman Mahbob, Chairman, TM who also the Chairman of YTM, Datuk Bazlan Osman, Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Abd Hamid Hashim, Director of YTM. The launch of Telegraph Museum is a historical event for YTM after the opening of the Telekom Museum or also known as Muzium Telekomunikasi Negara in Kuala Lumpur in 1994. Tan Sri Sulaiman in his speech said, “The role of the museum has changed over the years, expanding its focus beyond presenting things of the past to include creating a connection with the present and a glimpse into the future. Telegraph Museum is a space that provides us with the knowledge on telegraph’s history since 18th century. The Post & Telegraph Department (P&T) has played an important role towards the development of National’s telecommunication system and TM through YTM has the responsibility to maintain and preserve our nation’s heritage for future generation.”  “The establishment of the Telegraph Museum is set to be the latest tourist attraction in Perak specifically and Malaysia, generally. The museum features the history of telegraph communications system including its maiden breakthrough here and how the technology has contributed to the development of the nation. We hope that the both museums; Telekom Museum and Telegraph Museum will be the places for students, researchers and the communities within and outside the country to deepen their understanding on the country’s telecommunication heritage and telegraph communications system,” he added. YTM’s efforts in establishing this Telegraph Museum is intended to restore and conserve the historic building, built in 1883 that housed the first Post Office & Telegraph (P&T) Office in Malaya, which then also became the first office of Telekom Malaysia. This 135 years old Telegraph office represents national identity and the highest historical moment in the earliest telecommunications history in the country. The two storey building has also been used as Jabatan Telekom Club Office and Telekom Malaysia Technical Operations Office before conservation works of the heritage building by maintaining its original shape during the 18th century. Among the interesting artifacts being showcased at the Telegraph Museum is the 1870s submarine cable which was the earliest cable in the world that uses insulation materials from the Gutta Percha tree extract. Visitors can also take a tour around the museum to see the telegraph transmitor and reception tools as well as other peripherals related to telegraph communications system back then while appreciating the history of telegraph and the benefits it brought to the nation until the telegram service was terminated in 2012. Malaysian citizens can purchase the entrance tickets at RM8 for adults and RM5 for children while for non-Malaysians, the ticket price is RM15 per person. In conjunction with the launch of the Telegraph Museum, TM  also collaborated with Pos Malaysia in issuing a limited edition stamp collection kit that features the Telegraph Museum which can be purchased at RM50.80 per set from 98 Pos Malaysia Offices nationwide. With the launch of this second TM museum, TM has proven their commitment in conserving this historic heritage. The Company believes that these initiatives by YTM such as the establishment of the Telekom Museum and the Telegraph Museum will greatly benefit in national development, in line with our unique role as a partner in nation building.

TM Strengthens National Talent Pipeline with RM25 Million through Yayasan TM Future Leaders Scholarships 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 August 2025 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”), through its foundation arm Yayasan TM (YTM), has awarded RM25 million in scholarships under the Yayasan TM Future Leaders Scholarship 2025, reaffirming the Group’s steadfast commitment to nurturing talent, supporting education and nation building. The scholarships will support students pursuing strategic fields including Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science and Analytical Economics at TM’s wholly owned Multimedia University (MMU), local public universities (IPTA), as well as leading institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Singapore. Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM and Deputy Chairman of Yayasan TM said, “At TM, we are committed to exemplifying how success and greater purpose can go hand in hand, as demonstrated by the positive impact we create for our communities and the nation. Through this scholarship, we are enabling the next generation of leaders who will drive innovation, create meaningful change, and empower Malaysia’s digital future. We are proud to support their journey as we move together towards our aspiration of becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030.” The 2025 scholarship cycle for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers attracted more than 10,300 applications nationwide, a reflection of the programme’s growing reach and reputation. Applicants went through a rigorous, transparent selection process which included stringent academic screening, online aptitude and competency tests, and final interviews conducted by Behavioural Event Interview (BEI)-certified panels. The recipients were celebrated at a presentation ceremony held recently at Dewan Tun Canselor, Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya, attended by esteemed parents, TM and MMU leaders, and a representative from the Ministry of Higher Education. Ainol Shaharina Sahar, Director of Yayasan TM remarked, “We are proud to welcome these bright young minds into the YTM family. Beyond financial sponsorship, the Future Leaders recipients will also embark on a comprehensive, end-to-end development programme designed to shape holistic and well-rounded individuals, while equipping them with future-ready skills, both in digital proficiency and employability. We believe these young talents will go on to lead, inspire, and make a meaningful difference for Malaysia’s future.” Since its inception in 1994, Yayasan TM has supported more than 18,000 students through various education initiatives, with total investments of more than RM650 million to date. Through these efforts, TM continues to contribute towards building a stronger digital talent ecosystem while supporting equitable access to education. Applications for the next undergraduate intake (September 2025) will open soon for students with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 who demonstrate academic brilliance, leadership traits and active co-curricular involvement.
