New Solutions Set to Elevate Internet Experience of Malaysians

​​​​​On the back of the recent announcement to further increase the overall coverage and internet quality of the nation, unifi, the premier Convergence brand under Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), today brings another #khabarbaik to its Streamyx customers. At the event, unifi unveiled unifi Air - its latest wireless high-speed broadband service - as one of many solutions to elevate the internet experience of existing Streamyx customers who reside in its LTE coverage areas. Meanwhile, existing Streamyx customers who are eagerly waiting to experience higher broadband speed will be migrated to unifi Lite starting September 2019.

Speaking at the event, Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, said, “We are excited to launch unifi Air as it embodies our commitment to bring #khabarbaik to all Malaysians to ensure that no one is left behind in Malaysia’s journey of evolving into a Digital Nation. unifi Air is an upgrade to our existing services, and is being offered from as low as RM79/month to further boost Internet accessibility for Malaysians. At the same time, we are migrating existing Streamyx customers who are not within our unifi fibre and LTE coverage areas to the new unifi Lite plan at a discounted price at RM69/month first so they could enjoy the benefits of being part of our unifi family while waiting for the network expansion. One of the key benefits is to enjoy free door-to-door service assurance within two (2) hours starting with five (5) areas, which are Shah Alam, Bangsar/Pantai Dalam, Johor Bahru, Butterworth and Georgetown, starting October 2019. We remain committed to expanding beyond these 5 areas to deliver an enhanced internet experience for all existing and future customers nationwide.”

unifi Air is powered by a quick and easy plug-and-play wireless modem that able to connect up to 64 devices with an average speed of 20Mbps, and will be available to over 35,000 homes across 28 LTE areas nationwide. The newly unveiled unifi Air plan is specially designed for existing Streamyx users, with details as follows:

For existing Streamyx customers who reside outside of fibre and LTE coverage areas and existing unifi Lite customers will enjoy the new unifi Lite plan at a discounted price RM69/month from their September 2019 bill onwards. Starting 1 September 2019, new customers can sign up to the new unifi Lite plan of up to 8Mbps at RM89/month. These are interim measures whilst a new network is being rolled out until 2021 via various fit-for-purpose technologies.  

In addition to the new broadband services, unifi also announced its new and first all-in-one app; myunifi, which aims to provide customers a hassle-free experience and peace of mind in managing their unifi account. The app comes with features like 24-hour installation, 24-hour live chat support, zero no show assurance and more convenient payment options. In addition, myunifi app is enhanced with ‘digitalme’, a secured digital ID to facilitate the single sign-on not only to myunifi app, but also to the unifi.com.my portal and soon; other unifi apps as well. The myunifi app is now available for free and downloadable via Google PlayStore and Apple AppStore

TM through unifi, has completed its internet upgrade programme in April 2019 with 973,000 unifi customers upgraded to 10 times the existing speed; 266,000 Streamyx customers in unifi coverage areas upgraded to unifi and 226,000 Streamyx customers in non-unifi coverage areas upgraded to 2 times existing speed where technology permits. unifi remains committed to address the copper network challenges via various technologies such as fibre, wireless and GigaWire in a network rollout which will involve a phased customer migration starting today until 2021. It is expected that 70% of these customers will be able to enjoy unifi services by end 2020.

TM extends free connectivity to more than 1,000 community centres nationwide

​FREE WiFi for close to 60 PPRs and over 1,000 community internet centres nationwide in collaboration with MCMC to provide internet access and facilitate Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR). Provides connectivity and devices to students from lower-income families (B40) under Tabung CERDIK in collaboration with Yayasan Hasanah. DidikTV KPM on unifi TV channel 107 available from 7am to midnight daily – an effort by Ministry of Education (MOE) to increase access to quality education for students nationwide. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), as the national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider, continues to extend Internet connectivity to more Malaysians, particularly the B40 group. The Company is providing FREE WiFi access at close to 60 People’s Housing Projects (Projek Perumahan Rakyat – PPR) and more than 1,000 community internet centres nationwide.  Students at 60 PPRs to benefit from FREE WiFi TM has been providing free WiFi access at 60 selected PPRs since January running until 30 April 2021, especially to assist SPM and STPM candidates. This latest initiative, in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), is to facilitate Home-based Teaching and Learning (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah – PdPR) of students at the PPRs. FREE connectivity at more than 1000 Community Internet Centres TM is also enabling more local communities as well as students especially in sub-urban and rural areas to enjoy free broadband connection and utilise the facilities safely for their online learning at 563 WiFi Komuniti (WK), 437 community internet centres (Pusat Internet Komuniti – PIK), and 37 Pusat Internet Desa (PID); also in collaboration with MCMC. Providing support to the Tabung CERDIK initiative In addition, TM is also collaborating with Yayasan Hasanah to support the Tabung CERDIK initiative which was announced by the Government during the tabling of Budget 2021. The initiative will see government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) contribute RM150 million to provide laptops to 150,000 students in 500 schools, as a pilot project and is aimed at enabling PdPR. TM will be contributing connectivity and devices with an estimated value of over RM20 million. TM will contribute approximately 300 laptops worth RM500,000 while through unifi Mobile, TM will offer participating GLICs/GLCs the industry CERDIK mobile package which will be bundled with their device contributions. The Company will also upgrade broadband connectivity for 325 schools identified by the Ministry of Education (MoE) under the initiative as well as the nearby 156 Pusat Internet Centres and 17 PPRs. DidikTV KPM on unifi TV channel 107 The MOE has recently announced that its new terrestrial dedicated TV channel, known as DidikTV KPM, will start its broadcast on Wednesday, 17 February 2021. TM also facilitates PdPR amongst students by hosting the daily broadcasts of DidikTV KPM on unifi TV from 7am until midnight on unifi TV channel 107. DidikTV KPM will broadcast specially designed content based on MOE’s curriculum and co-curriculum, aside from news on education, edutainment programmes, student-generated content as well as relevant international programmes.  Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: “Connectivity is crucial at this time as more Malaysians are at home; especially with most students having to learn remotely via PdPR. We hope that with the availability of free connectivity at these 60 PPRs and more than 1000 community internet centres, local communities especially students from the B40 families can attend classes and utilise online learning tools so that they won’t fall behind in their studies. They will be able to utilise unlimited data for learning applications and online classroom sessions, especially the candidates of the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) preparing for the examinations. Most importantly, they can stay safe and stay productive at home during the Movement Control Order (MCO).” “We reiterate our support of the various Government and MCMC initiatives to address the digital gap especially among the low income groups, such as Tabung CERDIK. Apart from devices, students are in dire need of mobile connectivity that comes with unlimited data and affordable monthly subscription, which does not require frequent add ons or top-up when their quota has been utilised. The special unifi Mobile #BEBAS data package for SPM/STPM 2021 candidates and students of higher learning institutions, as well as the additional 1GB LTE daily data allowance, which has been in place throughout the MCO are to help Malaysians at this challenging time. We will continue to innovate our offerings to deliver seamless connectivity and an enhanced service experience to more Malaysians nationwide, in line with the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) action plan. This complimentary data is available to all unifi Mobile postpaid as well as #BEBAS prepaid customers, on top of their existing monthly data allocation based on their subscription plan. This package has also been extended to students of higher learning institutions under 22 years of age, following the announcement by the Prime Minister under the “Perlindungan Ekonomi & Rakyat Malaysia” (PERMAI) assistance package on 18 January 2021. Better internet experience for Streamyx and unifi customers nationwide

TM Submits Plan to KKMM and MCMC On the back of the successful upgrade of 973,000 unifi customers to higher speeds, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today submitted a plan to the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to address the remaining 934,000 Streamyx and unifi customers to further increase the overall coverage and internet quality of the nation. The announcement of the plan was made by Tuan Haji Rosli Man, Chairman of TM Group, at the press conference in conjunction with Kembara Digital Malaysia held in Ipoh. Also present at the event were YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Communications and Multimedia; Dato’ Suriani Dato’ Ahmad, Secretary General of KKMM; Tuan Al-Ishsal Ishak, Chairman of MCMC; Dato’ Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM; and Imri Mokhtar, Chief Operating Officer, TM. TM intends to also seek support from Government of Malaysia for this implementation utilising existing funding to deliver better broadband services to rural and sub-urban areas, in line with the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP). TM will be addressing the copper network challenges via various technologies such as fibre, wireless and GigaWire in a network rollout which will involve a phased customer migration starting today until 2021. It is expected that 70% of these customers will be able to enjoy unifi services by end 2020. TM also announced a new entry level broadband package of up to 8Mbps at RM89 a month for residential customers. Meanwhile, existing Streamyx residential customers will enjoy this offer at RM69 a month. In addition, a wireless broadband alternative will be launched to address the issues faced by Streamyx customers today; while the network is being rolled out until 2021. Details will be announced very soon under its #khabarbaik programme. Tuan Haji Rosli said, “We are committed to resolve the Streamyx issues and believe that the plan is the way forward to address not only the limitation of the copper broadband network, but also to lay the foundation for a better internet experience for all existing and future customers nationwide. This exercise has helped to uplift Malaysia’s position in global high speed connectivity rankings. In February 2019, the Speedtest Global Index by Ookla reported that fixed broadband download speeds in Malaysia increased by almost threefold to 70.18Mbps as compared to 22.26Mbps a year ago. Malaysia is now ranked 28th in the world as compared with 56th in 2017. Further, the MCMC has also reported that the number of fixed broadband subscriptions with download speeds of more than 100Mbps have risen tremendously from 150,000 in 2017 to 1.2 million subscribers in 2018.

TM REVOLUTIONISES DIGITAL HEALTHCARE SERVICES WITH NEXT GEN E-PHARMACY SOLUTION

CYBERJAYA, 14 MARCH 2024 – TM via its Unifi Business segment, today unveiled its latest digital business offering called the e-Pharmacy Solution, a mobile application that enables e-prescriptions via teleconsultation for pharmacists and their walk-in patients. Bundled with Unifi Business’ fixed broadband plans from 100Mbps up to 2Gbps, this offering in collaboration with Teleme Technologies, Malaysia’s leading telemedicine platform, includes access to over 500 licensed healthcare professionals for teleconsultation, e-prescriptions, customised Digital Signature, e-health articles and a repository for patients’ medical records. Harnessing TM’s networks and its approximately 600 nationwide Unifi Business consultants, the offering aims to help pharmacists dispense essential medications and pharmaceutical services, especially among rural and underserved communities. Through e-prescriptions, these communities will be able to access prescribed medications seamlessly, enhancing adherence and improving health outcomes. Launched by Minister of Communications YB Fahmi Fadzil, TM’s e-Pharmacy Solution aligns with the collaboration between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS) during the Persidangan PEDi MADANI, to accelerate the digitalisation of healthcare services, and bridge the urban-rural gap in equitable access to quality healthcare. This offering is also eligible for the Government’s Geran Digital PMKS Madani (GDPM), ensuring pharmacists from the micro, small and medium enterprise segment (MSME) receive the support they need to embrace digitalisation and enable a more inclusive healthcare system for all Malaysians.
