KUALA LUMPUR, 10 October 2025 – “TM, welcomes Budget 2026 announcement and lauds the Government’s continued focus on economic reform and uplifting the well-being of the rakyat. The strong emphasis on digital infrastructure and inclusivity from the expansion of JENDELA 2, Points of Presence (PoP), NADI Centres, and the new Sambungan Kabel Dasar Laut MADANI (SALAM) will further strengthen our national digital resilience.

TM R&D wins prestigious MSC Malaysia APICTA 2018 for the innovation of Smart Safety Helmet
Places TM R&D as the Champion of Research & Development in 2018 TM Research & Development (TM R&D), the research arm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently won the Cross Category: Research & Development for its innovative Smart Safety Helmet during the 19th MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC Malaysia APICTA) 2018 organised by the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM). Winning this prestigious award places TM R&D as the champion of Research & Development in 2018. In addition, TM R&D has been selected to represent Malaysia in the Cross Category: Research & Development at the International APICTA Awards 2018 in Guangzhou, China. Present to accept the award was Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah, Chief Executive Officer of TM R&D. Developed by TM R&D, Smart Safety Helmet is a data driven smart industrial or safety helmet, an Internet of Things (IoT) solution that provides live, wireless monitoring and array of sensors including accident impact and geolocation which can be used to perform various analysis towards creating a safer worksite. It sends telemetry to the cloud and processes the data for the benefit of the employer as well as the staff. It has all the safety helmet features, location tracking services, attendance, violation detection and a video camera for remote coaching and emergency observation of the workforce. This Smart Safety Helmet innovation is the first Smart Safety Helmet in Malaysia and it is now ready to be deployed for industry players across various sectors such as Oil & Gas, Construction, Chemical & Manufacturing Industry and many more. Commenting on the milestone achievement, Datuk Bazlan Osman, Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of TM said, “We are excited and thrilled to know that TM R&D has won the award. It was such a great honour and it is the first of many other innovations that will be introduced by our R&D arm. The invention of this smart helmet without doubt will increase operational efficiency at the work place and enhance productivity level of the workforce.” The Smart Safety Helmet started off as a challenge in speed and innovation, where the team worked towards creating a first working prototype within two (2) weeks. It later became part of one of the five (5) pillars of smart solutions under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between TM and Petronas to increase operational excellence and enhance customer experience. Gaining huge interests from large corporations, the Smart Safety Helmet was invited to be featured at the recent 4th Malaysia Oil & Gas Services Exhibition and Conference (MOGSEC) as part of TM’s product showcase. A Meaningful Aidiladha Celebration with Pulau Tioman Community
TIOMAN ISLAND, 27 May 2026 – After a five-year hiatus in performing ibadah korban due to logistical constraints and limited livestock supply, the community of Kampung Mukut in Pulau Tioman is once again able to observe Aidiladha meaningfully this year. This significant moment was made possible through the Aidiladha 1447H Ibadah Korban Programme organised by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”) under its Jangkau Digital TM social impact initiative.For communities in Pulau Tioman, carrying out ibadah korban is not without its challenges. Difficulties in sourcing livestock and the logistical complexity of transporting them across the sea have often posed barriers. Recognising these challenges, TM coordinated the delivery of 11 cattle to the island on 20 May, fully bearing the transportation and management costs to ensure the smooth execution of the programme.The ibadah korban activities were carried out across several locations, including Kampung Tekek, Kampung Mukut, Kampung Salang, and Kampung Juara, ensuring that the benefits could be shared among residents across the island.TM Chief Corporate Officer, Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali, said the programme carries deep significance for TM, particularly in supporting Kampung Mukut its adopted village. “We are truly honoured to help revive the Aidiladha tradition for the community in Kampung Mukut, as well as across other villages in Tioman. Jangkau Digital TM is not just about providing access to technology, but about being a caring partner that delivers meaningful impact in the everyday lives of communities,” she further added.This year’s ibadah korban also saw active participation from TM employees who worked hand in hand with the local community, reflecting the spirit of togetherness that lies at the heart of Aidiladha. Appreciation is extended to all parties who contributed to ensuring the successful implementation of the programme.Meanwhile, the Village Head of Kampung Tekek and Kampung Air Batang, Abd. Hafaz Bin A. Hamid, expressed his gratitude for TM’s initiative. “This effort creates opportunities for the Pulau Tioman community to perform ibadah korban more easily. Aidiladha becomes more meaningful when we can come together, share our blessings, and strengthen our bonds,” he said.The programme forms part of TM’s broader integrated community development framework, encompassing initiatives in local economic empowerment, digital skills development, and environmental conservation. Through this approach, TM remains committed to ensuring that communities in remote areas continue to benefit from balanced and sustainable development.
TM R&D inks MoU with AL-QUDS University to foster industry-academia collaboration for research and innovation excellence in next generation communication technologies
Telekom Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), the innovation arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al-Quds University (AQU) to foster industry-academia collaboration for joint research in Next Generation Communication Technologies and to create an institution for innovation and technology transfer. Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah, Chief Executive Officer, TM R&D, signed the MoU on behalf of TM R&D while AQU was represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Imad Abu Kishek. The agreement was sealed under the support and presence of H. E. Mr. Walid Abu Ali, Ambassador of The State of Palestine to Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand and Maldives. Under the MoU, both entities will join forces to explore research and knowledge exchange activities including staff exchange for scientific works and student visits, in addition to development of impactful digital solutions with a global outlook. Commenting on the latest collaboration, Dr. Sharlene said, “We are excited to have AQU on board as the first university that we’re collaborating with post COVID-19. This MoU is testament of our efforts to work with innovative and entrepreneurial academic institutions to deliver excellence in the field of research and innovation.” “The knowledge sharing and technology transfer between Malaysia and Palestine will definitely boost research capabilities and cross-cultural innovations,” she added. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Imad Abu Kishek shared, “The university’s strategy encompasses building strong cooperative relationships with the Malaysian industry and academia. We believe that this is the first step towards a sustainable partnership with TM R&D, which will provide our staff and students the opportunity to access expert knowledge, latest technologies, innovation labs, and industry in Malaysia.” “We hope that this collaboration will result in a symbiotic relationship that furthers the economy, innovation, and technology transfer among both institutions,” added Prof. Dr. Imad. AQU is an academic research university that currently offers more than 120 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, delivered through its 15 degree-granting faculties that cover main scientific disciplines such as medicine, life and natural sciences, business and management, arts and humanities, law and jurisprudence, engineering, computer science, information technology, and social sciences. In addition, AQU pursues educational distinction through a culture of innovation and strives to develop entrepreneurs who are able to partake in the development of the Palestinian economy.
