Rewired For Connection

Post World War II, and known then as the Telecommunications Department of Malaya, we rebuilt the nation’s telegraph network to reconnect communities and businesses. With each line restored, we brought back hope and communication to a nation in recovery.

Growing With The Nation

After Malaysia’s Independence in 1957, we doubled the number of telephones from 20,000 to 39,000 and grew radio stations tenfold to over 1,000 as Jabatan Telekom, the foundation of Malaysia’s connectivity. Satellite exchanges began to emerge, linking Malaysia to the rest of the world.

From Signals To Stories

Through essential network services, we enabled Malaysia's first national television network to come alive, and it awakened hearts and minds through on-screen news, entertainment and education.

Ringing In A New Era

Long distance terrestrial links via Malaysia’s first Earth station in Kuantan brought iconic events straight into homes, enabling Malaysians to experience historic moments like Muhammad Ali’s boxing match telecasts together in real-time.

Dialing To The East

Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak felt closer than ever before with the launch of our very first submarine cable. For the first time, voices, news, and stories could travel across the seas almost instantly, weaving distant communities together and bringing the nation closer as a single family.

Turning Dial Tones Into Dot Coms

The familiar hum of the dial tone from the 1515 dial-up service, offered by TM Net in 1995, became the soundtrack to late-night discoveries, new friendships and explorations of distant places. Then, every dial tone was a doorway to new stories, facts and adventures.

Noteworthy Connections

As Malaysians explored the internet, ADSL broadband service Streamyx powered everyone to work, learn and play in new digital ways. It created countless meaningful connections across communities and the nation after its launch in 2001.

Streaming Ahead

The launch of Unifi, Malaysia’s first high-speed broadband supported by a 5G network, spearheaded us into the digital era. Suddenly, we were sharing more of our lives online, discovering new communities, and connecting faster than we had ever imagined.
