Modernising Wayang Kulit in a new light

Dubbed "the original movie theatre", Wayang Kulit (Shadow Play) is one of the many intangible heritage of Malaysia that has waned in popularity in the recent years.

Although it originated from India, it has spread all over Southeast Asia. Every country, including Malaysia, localised the art to give it a distinct identity. Some notable unique features of Malaysian Wayang Kulit are the "tapak" (ground), the inner arm holding a weapon/tool and a sturdier and solid build.

This Hari Kebangsaan and Hari Malaysia, under #MengukirMalaysia, TM aims to bring back the love of this art form with Tintoy Chuo and his Tok Dalang (The Master Puppeteer), well known for their fusion contemporary version of the ancient art of Wayang Kulit and used it as a medium to tell a story inspired by one of Malaysia's forgotten heroes, the great Tan Sri Hajah Zainon Binti Sulaiman, also known as Ibu Zain.

With human-centered technology as our mantra, we also brought this story to life by turning this Wayang Kulit story into a revolutionary experience.
