50 Complimentary Fixed Wireless Access Terminals and Free 5G WiFi connectivity enabling medical officers with a more coordinated response and enhanced communications services for all to #stayconnected

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently deployed its 5G base stations at two (2) quarantine centres for COVID-19 cases namely Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS), Serdang and Institut Latihan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia, Sungai Buloh, Selangor. With the deployment of the 5G base stations, the frontliners, medical teams as well as the patients admitted to the facilities will be able to enjoy enhanced mobile broadband services over 5G connectivity. Both quarantine centres have been allocated with 50 complimentary units of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) terminals that deliver up to 500Mbps WiFi connectivity to the users and all WiFi usage charges on the 5G network are also free of charge.

This latest Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiative by TM is an extension of its recent participation in the 5G Demonstration Project (5GDP) in Langkawi and Subang Jaya; where the deployment at the quarantine centres utilises a similar 5G core network set up installed in Langkawi. With the Company's 5G expertise, resources and experience, TM was able to deploy the base stations within just a few days.

Commenting on the initiative, Dato' Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: "TM is honoured to have been given the opportunity by the Government to deploy our 5G base stations at the two (2) quarantine centres. We have allocated 50 complimentary units of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) terminals at both quarantine centres and we are providing FREE WiFi access on the 5G network for all users there. Besides an extension of the recent 5GDP, this initiative is also part of our corporate responsibility efforts in assisting the Government towards curbing the COVID-19 pandemic. With the efficiencies and convenience of 5G connectivity, the frontliners and medical teams will be able to #stayproductive in their operations to respond to any emergency situations and provide the necessary treatments; while the patients will be able to #stayconnected with their families and loved ones during their stay at the quarantine facilities. The deployment of these 5G base stations also demonstrates our expertise and capabilities in delivering 5G services to Malaysians nationwide. We will continue to explore more ways on how we can help to cushion the impact of this pandemic to the economy and to our customers, employees, front liners and to those in need; as well as to ensure our services continue without interruption."

"On behalf of TM, I would like to thank the Government and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for their trust and assistance throughout the process; from planning until deployment, which enables us to complete the necessary works at these critical sites within only a few days. This also proves our capability of providing innovative digital services and solutions and adapting our offerings to help customers as required, particularly during this challenging period. As the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations, we have established the communications backbone of Malaysia with the widest connectivity and convergence network. We will continue to lay the foundation for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and rolling out 5G nationwide – serving a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital Government, towards improving the quality of lives of the Rakyat," he added.

Meanwhile, Zaidi Shahrim, Chief Executive Officer, MARDI Corporation Sdn Bhd said: "We are pleased that MAEPS was chosen as one of the sites for the deployment of TM's 5G base stations. We are confident that the enhanced 5G connectivity, provided with the courtesy of TM, will further improve the medical service delivery and this fully supports the Government's various efforts in keeping the COVID-19 at bay and most importantly, breaking the chain."

Norafizah Rahman, Chief Operating Officer, MARDI MAEPS Sdn Bhd further added: "We would like to extend our thanks to all Government and private agencies who have given their full commitment and support to ensure that we were able to convert the centre into a makeshift hospital within 4 days. Special thanks to TM for deploying their 5G base stations here and we look forward to fully utilise the enhanced connectivity for the benefit of all – frontliners, medical and administration teams, as well as patients."

TM, together with its enterprise and public sector business solutions arm – TM ONE, as well as its innovation arm – TM R&D Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), recently participated in the 5GDP undertaken by the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in Langkawi and Subang Jaya.  Through TM's 5GDP, the Group recorded a number of firsts for itself and the country in the region. TM is the first telco in the world to deploy 700 MHz and C-Band (3.5 GHz) on a Standalone (SA) dedicated 5G network simultaneously. In addition, it deployed a 5G Core Network (5GC), 700MHz and 3.5 GHz SA dedicated 5G network and a 5G Centralised Radio Access Network (RAN). TM is also the first in the country to establish an Integrated Operations Command Centre (IOCC) or known as TM 5G Command Centre (5GCC) which is at the heart of 5G implementation in Langkawi. The Company has also successfully achieved 1.5Gbps for 5G speed tests conducted for its 5G use cases sites. Via 5GDP, TM has successfully equipped Langkawi with 5G, making it the first Smart Tourism Island in the world.

TM will continually monitor the ongoing situation for developments and adapt our services to help our stakeholders, whenever needed. TM remains committed to help all Malaysians to #sTayhoMe, #stayconnected, #stayproductive, #stayserved and #staysafe throughout the MCO and beyond. TM urges members of the public to continue to take precautionary measures such as social distancing and good personal hygiene to lower the risk and spread of the virus.
