Yayasan TM; Tower Run

The inaugural event held in conjunction with YTM’s 25th anniversary challenges participants’ endurance


Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) via its foundation, Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) today organises its charity event – Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 at Menara TM, Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of YTM this year. This inaugural event, co-organised together with JomRun Sdn Bhd is the first-ever Individual Flag Off Towerrunning Event in Malaysia.

For its first edition, Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 has already made its mark with a total participation of over 1,300 runners from all around the world including Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Nepal, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Kingdom and USA.

The event was also sanctioned by Towerrunning World Association (TWA) and Malaysia Towerrunning Association (MTA) in ensuring all safety and technical aspects successfully implemented.

Mohd Farid Shah Mohd Basir, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM and Abdul Hamid Hashim, Director of YTM were present at the event to flag off the participants. Making it more interesting, Mohd Farid also joined the climb up the Malaysia's 4th tallest building together with Soh Wai Ching, the World's No. 2 and Asia's No. 1 Tower Runner.

Commenting on the event, Mohd Farid said, "It was uplifting to be a part of this passionate sport enthusiasts in the inaugural event. As a charity-based event, Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 received tremendous support with more than RM140,000 raised from the participation fees, corporate sponsorship from our generous sponsors, as well as individual contributions. The funds will be used to help the less fortunate, deserving students to overcome their financial setbacks towards improving their academic performance. This befits YTM as well as TM's nation-building role in producing workforce ready to empower Digital Malaysia."

Malaysian Airlines (MAB) is the Official Airlines for the Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019. Other major sponsors for this event are REV Malaysia, Kelab TM Malaysia, unifi, Domino's Pizza Malaysia, Potatoes USA, California Raisins and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). Adding on more excitement, MAB is offering 15% discount on ticket fares to worldwide destinations where buyers just need to key in the promo code "YTMMAB15" to enjoy the discount promotion.

Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 offered participants with 200m elevation climb up 1,296 steps in six (6) categories – Men's Open (aged 18 years and above), Women's Open (aged 18 and above), Men's Veteran (aged 40 years and above), Women's Veteran (aged 40 years and above), TM staff Men and TM staff Women. All runners were flagged off individually with a time interval of five (5) seconds while for the elite runners, the time interval was 15 seconds.

Top five (5) winners in each category of the Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 received cash prizes, where the first place winners walked away with RM800 followed by RM600 (second), RM400 (third), RM300 (fourth) and RM200 (fifth). Apart from the winners of each category, the Overall Men and Women champion received RM1,350 followed by RM900 (1st runner up) and RM450 (2nd runner up).
