Malaysia’s Broadband Champion crowned for the second year running at the 2013 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Awards…

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) added another notch to its awards tally when the Company recently bagged the Fixed Broadband Service Provider of the Year award at the 2013 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Awards held in Singapore. The win marks TM’s second year running as the winner of the coveted award at the regional front.
This award also complements two (2) other awards, Data Communications Service Provider of the Year and Telecom Service Provider of the Year received at the Malaysian chapter recently.

2012 was indeed a great year for TM, with historic milestones in terms of industry leading financial performance as well as operations, particularly the deployment of High Speed Broadband (HSBB) project.

Accepting the award on behalf of TM at the award ceremony was Ahmad Azhar Yahya, Chief Executive Officer, VADS Berhad, the ICT/BPO arm of TM.

Commenting on the win, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said, “2012 was indeed a great year for TM, with historic milestones in terms of financial performance as well as operations, particularly the deployment of High Speed Broadband (HSBB) project. To date, our UniFi service offering has been enjoyed by over 577,000 customers throughout the country. These achievements are testament of the Company’s commitment in fulfilling the needs of our broadband customers, across all market segments. With high speed broadband connectivity from TM, customers can leverage on high-bandwidth applications to enrich their life, true to our promise of “Life Made Easier”. It is also in line with our aspiration of delivering an integrated and enhanced digital lifestyle to all Malaysians.”

“But what brings the Company to where it is now, is the passion and teamwork of over 27,000 employees of TM. With a strong one-company mindset coupled with the energy and spirit of 1TM, they have proven their capabilities and elevate the Company to become Malaysia’s Broadband Champion. Meanwhile, Serene Chan, Senior Industry Analyst – Telecom Sector, Asia Pacific ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan said, “TM has achieved remarkable growth in FY2012 as its broadband subscriber base grew year-on-year by 7.4% to reach 2.1 million by the end of 2012. TM continues to attract new customers and maintains its strong broadband leadership position with a market share of 89.1%. In particular, Streamyx is the preferred fixed broadband service among households in Malaysia with 1.3 million residential subscribers. By the end of 2012, 74% of them are experiencing speeds of 1Mbps and above as TM continues to upgrade them to higher speeds of 4Mbps and 8Mbps.”

“TM has been instrumental in increasing fixed broadband penetration rate in Malaysia from 23% in 2009 to 67% by the end of 2012. On average it installs 20,000 new fibre broadband subscribers each month, amounting to a spectacular year-on-year growth rate of 104.0%. Serving over 482,000 UniFi customers by the end of 2012, TM has the largest number of fibre broadband subscribers in Southeast Asia,” she added.

She also noted, “In terms of Public-Private Partnership HSBB rollout Agreement, TM has surpassed its commitment as it passed 1.4 million premises by the end of 2012, achieving the one of the fastest fibre broadband rollout in the world.”

The Frost & Sullivan Awards were presented to companies that demonstrate best practices in their industry, commending the diligence, commitment, and innovative business strategies required to advance in the global marketplace.

Award recipients were evaluated based on their revenue growth, market share gains, leadership in new product introduction and innovation, breadth of products and solutions, major customer acquisition, and business and market strategy. The results are then presented to an independent panel of judges, comprising of influential personalities, decision-makers and thought leaders from the ICT sector across Asia Pacific.
