TM PROMOTES HEALTHY LIFESTYLE THROUGH TM SPORTS CARNIVAL

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), through Kelab TM Johor, today held its annual Sports Carnival at Dataran Bandaraya Johor Bahru, Johor from 22 July until 25 July 2010. The 3-day event has attracted 1,500 TM employees from all over Malaysia including from Sabah and Sarawak, who will be competing in a range of sporting events.

The event was organised annually by TM Club with the objective of bringing together the employees from all TM offices nationwide to bond and foster better relationship, thus cultivating greater unity and the spirit of competitiveness among them. Each year, TM Club of different states takes turn to host this sporting event at their respective state with the previous year being held in Kuantan, Pahang. The carnival also provides an excellent opportunity for the employees to meet their friends and colleagues from other parts of the country.

The opening ceremony of TM Sports Carnival was officiated by YAB Dato’ Haji Abdul Ghani Othman, Menteri Besar Johor. Also present were Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM, Mohd. Khalis Abdul Rahim, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM who is also the Presiden of Kelab TM Malaysia, Mohd Roslan Mohd Rashidi, State General Manager, TM Johor who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the sports carnival, as well as the officials of Johor state government and senior management of TM Group.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Sports Carnival, Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, said, “Promoting healthy and active lifestyle is also an important workplace practice in TM. We also organize various activities to enhance work-life balance among our employees throughout the year. This include this annually held Karnival Sukan TM and Hari Keluarga as well as other activities run by Kelab TM, either at the national level or even at the State level. TM, through events of this nature, hope to promote and produce a healthy and active set of workforce, inculcate team unity and strengthen the relationship amongst TM staff, regardless of level and division, which in turn will contribute towards better productivity.”

A total of 14 contingents represented by TM staff from all states throughout Malaysia will be participating in the Carnival. The carnival features ten sports – football, volleyball, netball, badminton, bowling, sepak takraw, dart, table tennis, golf as well as Tanjung Puteri marathon challenge.

Commenting on TM’s operations in Johor, “TM has been playing a pivotal role in rolling out the High Speed Broadband (HSBB) in Malaysia. Specifically in Johor, the service will be available at Nusajaya, Permas industrial area and Senai by this year while other industrial areas including Skudai, Pasir Gudang and Tampoi are expected to be covered with the HSBB service, UniFi in stages by end of 2010.”

“TM is also excited to be given the opportunity to be part of Digital Pagoh project which was officially launched by our Deputy Prime Minister last month. Besides that, TM has been providing continuous support towards the State Government’s efforts in the provisioning of network infrastructure for Johor E-Government, in realizing the State Government’s aim of migrating its conventional working system to the faster, more efficient, paperless digital system,” added Dato’ Zamzamzairani.

Apart from competing in the sports and carnival activities, TM staff will be treated to a ‘United Colours of TM’ themed gala dinner. Apart from the excellent food, the participants can also look forward to a night of fun and good cheer, with entertainment for guest artiste, karoake competition among the contingents, cultural performances and lucky draws for all guests.
