Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), through its Badan Kebajikan Islam Telekom Malaysia (BAKIT) today reaped the blessings or barakah of Ramadhan by celebrating the holy month with orphans and single mothers in a special Majlis Berbuka Puasa.
The orphans and single mothers were given a good treat in the Majlis Berbuka Puasa which was hosted by Datuk Dr. Halim Shafie, Chairman of TM and Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM. Also present was Datuk Bazlan Osman, Group Chief Financial Officer, TM who is also the Yang Dipertua of BAKIT.
At the event, 43 orphans and 20 single mothers, children and wives of TM employees who had passed away were treated to a delicious menu of buka puasa. In addition, the children also received TM merchandise and RM50 each as ‘duit raya’.
Besides the orphans and single mothers from within TM Group, TM and BAKIT also treated 28 orphans from 2 orphanages at the same event: 10 orphans from Rumah Siraman Kasih, Rawang, Selangor and 18 orphans from Pusat Rumah Anak Yatim Shifa, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
Speaking at the event, Datuk Dr. Halim said, “This annual event by TM and BAKIT provides the opportunity for the employees to strengthen the relationship amongst them while breaking fast and praying in jamaah. This buka puasa is more meaningful as we take time to share with the less fortunate and relive the spirit of giving. I am happy to see TM employees from all levels present tonight to treat our special guests, the orphans and the single mothers in this special Majlis Berbuka Puasa. It shows that TM employees are a caring community and we concern about the welfare of others.”
“Tonight, we are celebrating the holy month of Ramadhan with the orphans and single mothers within TM Group from Klang Valley. As saying goes, “charity begins at home”, TM, as a caring employer, does not neglect the need and welfare of its workforce. Besides that, we also fete orphans from 2 institutions namely Rumah Siraman Kasih, Rawang, Selangor and Pusat Rumah Anak Yatim Shifa, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. This event reflects TM’s corporate responsibilities to the communities by lending a helping hand to those in need especially during this holy month,” added Datuk Dr. Halim.
Reminiscing the spirit of Ramadhan, Datuk Dr. Halim said, “We are now in the second phase of Ramadhan, where Allah S.W.T. will bless those who fast with His forgiveness. Therefore, let’s bring ourselves closer to Almighty Allah and practice moderateness while enhancing our submission to Him, recite Al-Quran and relive the spirit of giving,” added Datuk Dr. Halim.
TM also presented RM2,000 cash contribution to each orphanage while each orphan received TM merchandise together with ‘duit raya’. The contributions were given away by Datuk Dr. Halim and Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani.
The buka puasa was followed by Maghrib prayers, iftar (dinner) and Terawih prayers soon after.
