The awards were given away by YB. Dato’ Mukhriz bin Tun Dr. Mahathir, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry. Also present were Datuk Dr. Halim Shafie, Chairman of TM and Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM.
YB. Dato’ Mukhriz congratulated the winning vendors said, “This event tonight, TM Entrepreneur Awards 2010 is indeed a meaningful event by TM for its vendors. It acts as recognition for TM vendors who have excelled and I hope this award will ignite the drive among the other vendors to continuously improve their performance.”
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Datuk Dr. Halim Shafie said, “I am delighted to be here and honour TM’s entrepreneurs and vendors who have been showing exemplary results throughout the year of 2009. On behalf of TM, I would like to congratulate all the winners and I really hope that this does not mean a stop for you, but rather, you should take this challenge to continue your excellent performance and together, we can bring TM to scale greater heights.”
To determine the winner for each award, the Evaluation Committee evaluated the vendors based on several criteria which can be divided into two parts; company’s performance and contract / supply performance.
“These entrepreneurs are the selected ones to be part of TM’s Entrepreneur Development Programme (EDP) which has been established since 1993 to develop, implement and monitor the development of Bumiputra entrepreneurs in TM Group. Towards this end, TM has its philosophy; to contribute toward capacity building in the country by nurturing a capable set of Bumiputra and local vendors as well as strengthening the current set of quality Bumiputra and local vendors. All the efforts are focused on increasing the value-add, high quality services and sustainability of the vendors. Throughout these years, TM is committed towards developing its vendors as we see them as part of TM’s business ecosystem and we really look for to building strategic and win-win relationship for both parties,” Datuk Dr. Halim further explained.
TM’s EDP focuses on three (3) key sectors namely manufacturing, services and retail. The programme was established with objective of improving TM’s performance via cost reduction and productivity and quality improvement as well as developing competitive and resilient entrepreneurs in line with the Bumiputera Commercial and Industrial Community (BCIC).
Realizing that the growth of business opportunities in the traditional sector is limited while new opportunities and possibilities are wide open with the launch of UniFi, TM has introduced a new programme namely ‘ICT Technopreneur Programme’ which is also known as the ‘Blue Lane’. The programme is aimed at paving the way for the small and medium-sized local ICT players to enter all relevant fields such as hardware and software including content and application by becoming TM’s partners in a ‘win-win’ arrangement. TM has started to conduct briefings on the ‘Blue Lane’ programme and it will be intensified in this near future.
Currently, a total of 1,248 entrepreneurs are involved in this programme of which 80% are Bumiputera vendors.
