TM, Malaysia’s next generation communications provider and Johor-based Mudra Tropika signed an agreement today, which will see TM offering its high-speed broadband infrastructure and services to residents of Nong Chik Heights. Nong Chik Heights is the first new housing project in Johor to enjoy this digital lifestyle.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Menteri Besar of Johor, Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman who was accompanied by Ahmad Azhar Yahya, Chief Strategy Officer of TM. Mudra Tropika was represented by its chairman, Dato’ Mohd Rashidi Md Noor and its Managing Director Dato’ Abdul Rahman Mohd Sharif, while TM was represented by Shanti Jusnita Johari, Executive Vice President, TM SME and Mohd Roslan Mohd Rashidi, State General Manager, TM Johor.
“Nong Chik Heights will blend the best of the past elements with the present through broadband connectivity to bring residents into the future as well,” said Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
Datuk Abdul Ghani said it was significant that a wholly-owned Bumiputera developer initiated the inclusion of this latest sophisticated telecommunication infrastructure and multi-media service in a Malay reserve housing estate.
“This is tangible evidence that Johor Bumiputras are not being pushed away to the fringes of the city but instead are pragmatic enough to grasp the latest technologies of the digital era. Nong Chik Heights is a classic example of how this is being brought to fruition,” he added.
According to Shanti Jusnita Johari, Executive Vice President of TM SME, TM is proud to work together with Mudra Tropika in offering its high speed broadband infrastructure and services in Nong Chik Heights.
“We are certainly looking forward to the day when residents of this forward-reaching community will be able to enjoy our high speed broadband services direct from their homes. In turn, TM is also very committed towards this collaboration that presents a huge opportunity for forward-looking developers such as Mudra Tropika. Eventually, fibre technology will be away forward for broadband service delivery. It is a valuable differentiator and of huge potential interest to tech-savvy, high end buyers and for property developers, it will add real value to their real estate valuations.”
“For TM, this collaboration also sets another milestone as this is the first high speed broadband deployment that is being implemented outside the scope of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with the Government to deploy such services. This proves TM’s commitment and stand to continue to invest in high speed broadband infrastructure and services even beyond PPP identified coverage areas, where there is demand. This partnership with Mudra Tropika serves as a good collaboration model between TM and I like minded property developers to deliver high speed broadband services to communities and I hope this can become a benchmark model that can be emulated by other property developers. With this, developers will be able to provide home buyers with ultimate features to quickly attract homeowners, hungry for a home location that can deliver cutting edge communication services that they will need for today and tomorrow. In line with this, TM will also be seeking to collaborate with other property developers around the country to offer such services this way,” Shanti added.
Nong Chik Heights - a unique eco-friendly housing project with high-tech connectivity - is coming up on a 14ha (36-acre) piece of prime elevated land along Jalan Kolam Ayer in Johor Bharu. The area, one of the oldest residential settlements in Johor Bahru, was previously occupied by the Johor Civil. Now, under a privatisation deal with the State Government Mudra Tropika has acquired the historic site to give it a complete transformation.
Under this RM303 million development, Mudra Tropika will build a new concept of eco-friendly houses featuring unique architecture for effective energy, water and waste management. Based on the “honeycomb” concept, the design and layout of the houses will also encourage community living, just like the ‘kampungs’ of the yesteryears.
Under this arrangement, Mudra Tropika will offer all purchasers of units in the project (Phase 2A & 2B), TM’s high speed broadband services.
A total of 186 units will be developed in phases over the next two years. The initial launch of 120 cluster houses in August last year was a run-away success with all units sold out in record time. Another batch of 39 units of semi-detached and bungalow units are due to be launched soon, with prices ranging from RM320,000 and RM750,000 each. Response to these up-market units has also been overwhelming.
“There is a very strong buying interest in this property because of its strategic location, design and supporting facilities,” said Dato’ Abdul Rahman, noting that more than half of the units had already been booked.
Mudra Tropika is also developing a separate commercial component named “Nong Chik Riverside” opposite the English College here featuring 54 units of three-storey shop-galleries.
In addition, 28-units of high-end semi-detached houses will also be built on another adjacent land parcel along Jalan Mustaffa here. Called “Halia Garden”, the freehold units are going at over RM1 million each. Mudra Tropika will also relocate the existing mosque in Jalan Kolam Air as part of the Nong Chik Heights redevelopment programme.
