Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today held its annual Sports Carnival at Pusat Rekreasi Air Balok, in Kuantan, Pahang. The 3-day event, to be held from 31 July until 2 August 2009, is organized by the TM Club of Pahang. It has attracted 1,200 TM employees from all over Malaysia, who will be competing in a range of sporting events.
The event was organised annually by TM Club with the objective of bringing together the employees from all TM offices nationwide to bond and foster better relationship, thus cultivating greater unity and the spirit of competitiveness among them. Each year, TM Club of different states takes turn to host this sporting event at their respective state with the previous year being held in Lumut, Perak. The carnival also provides an excellent opportunity for the employees to meet their friends and colleagues from other parts of the country.
The opening ceremony of TM’s Sports Carnival was officiated by Y.B. Dato’ Haji Wan Adnan Wan Mamat, Pahang State Exco of Youth, Sports and Culture. Also present were Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Md. Radzi Mansor, Chairman of TM, Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM, Dato’ Haji Wan Danial Wan Ibrahim, TM Pahang State General Manager who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the sports carnival, as well as the officials of the Pahang state government and senior management of TM Group.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Sports Carnival, Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Md. Radzi Mansor, said, “Each year, TM Sports Carnival sees a gathering of TM employees from all over the country with the aim of strengthening the relationship amongst us. As we may already know, sports activities are important in shaping a workforce that possesses a healthy mind and body. It is hoped that this TM Sports Carnival would cultivate team spirit within our employees participating in the games.”
“We need to understand that the sports that are in competition here are not just to fulfill some health or recreational programme objective. TM has always encouraged and motivated all our employees to live an active and healthy lifestyle. We really hope that TM Sports Carnival will lead to a physically and mentally strong workforce which in turn contribute towards productivity improvement,” he added.
A total of 14 contingents represented by TM staff from all states throughout Malaysia will be participating in the tournament. The carnival will have nine core sports - beach football, beach netball, beach volleyball, table tennis, sepak takraw, badminton, dart, bowling as well as Kuantan Challenge, a mini marathon challenge. The organizer has also lined up other activities to create a carnival-like atmosphere.
Apart from competing in the sports and carnival activities, TM staff will be treated to a ‘dangdut’ themed gala dinner. Apart from the excellent food, the participants can also look forward to a night of fun and good cheer, with entertainment in the form of a live band, performances by the contingents, cultural performances, lucky draws and surprise gifts for all guests.
