TM ANNOUNCES TMI’S BOARD LINE-UP 
 

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is pleased to announce the line-up for the Board of Directors of TM International Berhad (TMI) effective upon their compliance with relevant requirements. With the new appointments, the Board of TMI will comprise a total of nine (9) members led by Dato’ Azman Mokhtar as the Chairman.

Appointments of Dato’ Azman Mokhtar as Chairman of TMI and Dato’ Jamaludin Ibrahim as Group CEO Designate of TMI and  Dato’ Yusof Annuar Yaacob  as Executive Director/Group Chief Financial Officer Designate, TMI were announced earlier in February. The full line-up of the TMI Board is:

Welcoming the new directors, Dato’ Azman Mokhtar said, “I am delighted to welcome such a distinguished group of corporate and business leaders to the TMI board. Their breadth and depth of knowledge and experience will certainly add value in governing the strategic direction and performance of TMI as it forges ahead to be a leading mobile operator in South / Southeast Asia. I look forward to participating in many interesting and robust sessions at the upcoming board meetings.”

Dato’ Jamaludin Ibrahim said, “TMI will definitely benefit from the broad perspective, strategic insights and business expertise that the board members bring. I look forward to working alongside the Board, whose diversity of experience will be invaluable to TMI in this exciting phase of its development.”

The Board members are drawn from diverse backgrounds after an extensive search and selection process. Appointed to the board of TMI are:

Mr. David Lau Nai Pek (Malaysian)
David Lau, 55 has over 30 years of professional experience in finance and leading finance organizations in various locations globally. He has served the Shell Group for 25 years in various capacities in New Zealand, Australia, Brunei, Malaysia, United Kingdom, People’s Republic of China and the Netherlands. He is currently the VP Finance, Shell International Exploration and Production B.V., The Hague, The Netherlands.

He is a chartered accountant by profession and associate member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants. David obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Datuk Azzat Bin Kamaludin (Malaysian)
Datuk Azzat, 62 is a lawyer by profession, and is a partner of the law firm of Azzat & Izzat. He graduated from the University of Cambridge with degrees in Law and in International Law in 1969 and was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law of the Middle Temple, London in 1970. Prior to being admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1979, he served as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia in various capacities.

He is also presently a Director of Affin Holdings Berhad, Boustead Holdings Berhad, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Pulai Springs Resort Berhad, Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad, Visdynamics Holdings Berhad and several other private limited companies. He served as a member of the Securities Commission from 1 March 1993 to 21 March 1999.

Ismael Fariz Ali (Malaysian)
Ismael Fariz Ali, 46 is currently Executive Director, Investments at Khazanah Nasional Berhad.  Prior to this, Fariz was Managing Director of a technology venture capital firm, FirstFloor Capital Sdn Bhd which he co-founded in 2000.  In his seven years leading the firm, Fariz was involved in setting up several venture funds ranging from angel- and early-stage technology funds to mezzanine-stage funds.

Prior to that, Fariz was attached to AMMB Group for 16 years with experience ranging from corporate finance, privatisations, mergers and acquisitions, investment advisory and valuations, to infrastructure project finance, restructuring, and corporate strategy advice. Fariz has served on several Boards including Celcom Berhad, ValueCap Sdn Bhd, Pharmaniaga Berhad and RHB Bank Berhad. He is also a council member of the Malaysian Venture Capital Development Council (MVCDC).

Fariz holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Iowa and a BA in Economics & Business Administration from Knox College, Illinois, where he was also a teaching assistant in Computer Science.

Tan Sri Ghazzali Sheikh Abdul Khalid (Malaysian)
Tan Sri Ghazzali, 57 became Ambassador of Malaysia to the United States on April 19, 1998. Ambassador Ghazzali has been a career diplomat since 1971. Immediately before his appointment to Washington, DC, he served as the deputy secretary-general at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Over the years, his overseas appointments have included Hong Kong, Germany, Austria, Thailand, the United Nations in New York, the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe. Ambassador Ghazzali holds a degree in economics from the University of La Trobe in Australia.

Juan Villalonga Navarro (Spanish)
Juan Villalonga, 54 is currently a global investor based in London. He is a Board Member of Espirito Santo Financial Holding in Spain.
From 1996 to 2000 he was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Telefonica, a provider of telecommunications services in Spain.  Prior to joining Telefonica, Juan was the Chief Executive Officer of Bankers Trust in Spain and Portugal, the Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse First Boston in Spain and a partner at McKinsey & Co., a consulting firm, for nine years.

Juan graduated in Law and Economics at the prestigious Deusto University in Spain and holds a Master's in Business Administration from the Institute of Advanced Economic Studies in Barcelona.

Gita Wirjawan (Indonesian)
Mr Gita Wirjawan, 42 is currently Managing Director and Senior Country Officer for JP Morgan in Indonesia. Prior to that, Gita was the Senior Vice President for International Business Development at ST Telemedia. He was previously a senior banker at Goldman Sachs and Citibank.

Gita is also active in public service. He is a member of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and he is on the President’s biodiesel / renewable energy committee as well as the Vice-President’s committee on infrastructure development.

Gita holds a Masters of Public Administration degree from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University where he was also a Mason Fellow. He also has an MBA from Baylor University and a BA in Business Administration from the University of Texas.

Dr Farid Mohamed Sani (Malaysian)
Dr Farid, 32 is currently Senior Vice President, Managing Director’s Office at Khazanah.  He has been with Khazanah since 2004 and has also served in Khazanah’s Transformation Management Office. Prior to that, Dr Farid was a consultant at McKinsey & Co for two years.

Dr Farid received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Cambridge. He also has a MEng and BA (Hons) from University of Cambridge with a specialisation in Chemical Engineering. He graduated with First Class Honors.

Earlier, the TMI Board accepted the resignation of four of TMI’s existing directors.  They included Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Group CEO of TM, Dato’ Bazlan Osman, Group CFO at TM, Dato’ Lim Kheng Guan, Director at TM and Mr Ganen Sarvananthan, Executive Director at Khazanah Nasional Berhad.

Dato’ Azman paid tribute to the outgoing Directors and thanked them for their service, “The outgoing Board members have been valuable contributors, providing great insight, support and tremendous advice as TMI navigated through the expansion of the business in recent years. Their devoted service and professionalism will be deeply missed”.

The exercise will result in the creation of two separate telecommunication entities, with distinct business strategies and aspirations, namely, RegionCo (TM International Berhad) as the regional mobile entity and FixedCo (TM) as the domestic broadband entity. The exercise is targeted to be completed by the second quarter 2008.
