TM ANNOUNCES ITS MERDEKA MILLIONAIRE

More than 1.1 Million entries received for Merdeka Millionaire Programme

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) customers are now enjoying more exciting and bundled packages, thanks to its Merdeka Millionaire programme, which has enabled TM to update its customer database and engage its customers more effectively. The enriched customers’ profiles also allowed TM to embark on more direct and targeted marketing initiatives.

With more than 1.1 million completed entries received for the Merdeka Millionaire programme, combined with the profiles acquired during the previous RM1 Million Reward Programme, TM has developed various attractive services which include TM-Celcom Home, Hop and Away Broadband package, Streamyx Combo, iTalk Buddy as well as other interesting and interactive online content that were introduced throughout last year and this year. These latest offerings were designed to suit the needs of the current lifestyles across various market segments.

Dato’ Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: “We are delighted with the number of entries received as it exceeded our target of 900,000 entries. This is almost 30% above the target and almost double the number of entries received in 2006. Clearly this is very encouraging for us, and it gives us a great platform to reward our customers with various exciting prizes. With more than one million entry forms to choose from, the winner today is truly a unique “one-in-a-million” customer. His slogan has managed to capture the jury’s imagination with its highly patriotic feel and deep poetic value.”

”As a leading service provider, TM is constantly introducing innovative and compelling products and services for our customers. By having their latest and most updated particulars; we are thus able to come up with new and exciting products and services tailor-made to fit their specific preferences and lifestyle.” added Dato’ Zamzamzairani.

Today, at a prize-giving event held at Menara TM, Kuala Lumpur, Mohd. Rais Saufuan Awang, 25 years old, from Kemaman, Terengganu walked away with the grand prize of RM1 million in cash. Rais, an engineer, has been a Celcom customer since 2006. The prize money will definitely benefit him and help improve the quality of life for his family as his father is retired from the Armed Forces while his mother is a housewife. He also has seven siblings.

While giving away the RM1 million cheque, Dato’ Zamzamzairani also advised Rais to manage the money wisely, help his family, spend on charity, start a business or invest it.

During the event today, the November and December monthly winners of the contest were also announced. Both first prize winners took home a holiday package to Beijing, China to watch the Olympic Games for two persons worth RM15,000. The lucky winner for November was Teo Hock Yeo; while Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Mohd. Isa claimed the prize for December.

The holiday package is one of the ten (10) Monthly Prizes that were given away to 10 monthly winners as part of this customer reward programme. The second to fifth winners won a Visit Malaysia holiday package for 4 persons worth up to RM5,000 each while the remaining five winners walked away with a 3G Nokia handphone each.

The Merdeka Millionaire programme, which began in May 2007, is the follow-up to the first rewards programme, named the “TM RM1 Million Reward” contest that ran in 2006. Last year, the programme was aptly named the “TM Merdeka Millionaire” in conjunction with the country’s 50th Merdeka celebrations. The rewards initiative is one of the company’s efforts in rewarding its loyal customers. For the first RM1 million contest, Abdul Razak Mat, a carpenter from Pasir Putih, Kelantan walked away with the Grand Prize of RM1 million cash.

In conjunction with the nation’s 50th Merdeka celebrations, TM customers were given the opportunity to express their patriotic feelings and thoughts about the nation’s 50th year of independence by writing a slogan to encourage a sense of patriotism among them.

This time around, TM gave away bigger and better prizes for the 2007 contest, including a Proton Perdana as the Special Merdeka prize and 10 monthly prizes over eight months, in addition to the daily prizes of RM100 rebate for their TM bills.

Interestingly, 40% of the entries received were submitted online, thus reflecting Malaysians’ growing adoption of IT. Customers are also guided throughout the online submission, thus ensuring more accurate and complete contest entries, while making it easy, quick and instantaneous.

“Looking at the success of this programme, TM will look into the possibility of conducting more programs of this nature to reward our valued customers,” concluded Dato’ Zamzamzairani.
