TM SUPPORTS INTERNATIONAL CYCLING RACE
For twelve consecutive years, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has been continuously supporting Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL), the international cycling race. TM has been contributing to the race since its inception back in 1996 and starting from 2001, TM took its sponsorship of the race to another level, making the Company the Title Sponsor for the race.
For 2008, TM as the Official Communication Provider will equip the Secretariat and Media Centres at each stage of the race with communication facilities which include fixed line telephones, fax, Internet access and laptops. Besides that, TM will also provide broadcasting facilities for the local and international media throughout the race. In addition, TM will be providing 300 personnel from its workforce , including 40 persons for staging purposes and fleet services made up of 15 units of 3-tonne lorries, genset, towing and 4WD services for the race, which shows TM’s commitment towards making this event a success.
With its total in-kind contribution amounting to RM1.4 million, TM as one of the main sponsors, has been given the honour to be associated with the Yellow Jersey. The jersey, which will be worn by the overall winner of the race, will carry TM Group logos. The handover ceremony of the Yellow Jersey was held at Menara TM today and the jersey was handed over to the organizer, Ministry of Youth and Sports.
At the ceremony, TM was represented by Zainab Hashim, Vice President, Integrated Marketing, Malaysia Business, TM while the Ministry was represented by Datuk Naim Mohamad, Chief Operating Officer of LTdL 2008.
Speaking at the ceremony, Zainab Hashim said: “This year marks the 13th year of TM’s involvement in this annual cycling event and it is a testament of the Company’s continuous commitment towards sports development of the country, not only at the national level, but also at the international front.”
“This sponsorship forms a part of TM’s larger Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) initiatives under its three-pronged approach namely sports development, education and community/nation building. Its contribution towards this cause demonstrate TM’s commitment towards the nation’s growth, not only economically but also socially as sports activities promote a healthy lifestyle to the community. In addition, after 12 years, LTdL has made Malaysia a preferred destination for sports tourism and TM is glad to be part of the annual event,” she added.
Besides LTdL, under the sports development platform, TM also supports the national football league, TM Liga Malaysia, the international yacht competition, Monsoon Cup, SUKMA and TM Uni-League, a futsal tournament between local universities.
