TM LIGA MALAYSIA 2006/2007 PROMISES MORE EXCITEMENT
In its quest to revive the spirit of football among Malaysians, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today revealed new exciting developments that promise a whole new experience for football fans.
The developments are:
- New logo of TM Liga Malaysia
- Partnership with AMP
- Shebby as the Sports Development Advisor of TM’s initiatives

New logo of TM Liga Malaysia
For the 2006/2007 season, TM Liga Malaysia, the Malaysian football league will wear a new look. The new logo for the league was revealed today with a fresher look and feel to appeal to football fans throughout the nation. With the elements of fun and excitement ingrained, the new logo will be featured at the carnivals and on ground activities and TM hopes this will attract more spectators to the game.
Partnership with AMP
In its commitment to make the upcoming season a livelier and more exciting one, TM is also partnering with AMP Radio Networks to promote TM Liga Malaysia. With its well-known radio stations such as ERA, Sinar FM, THR Gegar and Xfresh as well as its popular announcers, AMP can play a significant role in boosting the popularity of local football among Malaysians. They will be involved in the promotions of TM Liga Malaysia via various on-air, online and on ground activities as well as supporting TM’s fiesta “Syoknya Bola” with crossover telecasts at the carnival. In addition, ERA and Xfresh’s logo will also be featured on TMFC jerseys.
Commenting on the partnership, Dato’ Abdul Wahid Omar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM explained, “The partnership with AMP adds value to the existing efforts of reviving the local football scene. With their participation in the carnivals, AMP will open another avenue for TM Liga Malaysia to reach various levels of local community, which can lead to a bigger crowd of football spectators.”
Shebby brings in further excitement
Not only the league will feature a new look, TM has also brought in Serbegeth Singh, better known as Shebby as the Advisor to TM’s sports development initiatives. As one of Asia’s well-known football pundits, Shebby will be working closely with TM and its partners to provide expert commentaries and professional advice. With his background which includes commentary spots in ESPN and Star Sports as well as his extensive experience and involvement in football, TM is confident that Shebby will be able to contribute not only to TM, but also to the Malaysian football arena.
TMFC marches into 2006/2007 season
With its outstanding performance in the last season, TMFC, the football team of TM, aims to grab the top three position in Liga Super of the coming TM Liga Malaysia season 2006/2007 or win one of the Cups.
The target is set with a new line up comprising 14 existing players and 11 new players. The line up was introduced today with 2 imported players from Brazil and Korea joining the team. The players were selected after thorough observations and trials, their performance in the previous season as well as suitability with their team mates.
Speaking at the event today, Dato’ Wahid said: “The latest line up combines the new and existing talents in the team’s run for at least a Cup this season. I believe Irfan Bakti, who has been a dedicated TMFC coach for the last 3 years will lead TMFC to the best season ever.”
To complete the team’s preparation for the upcoming season, TMFC also received an image facelift when the new team logo and jersey were unveiled during the event as well. TM hopes that the new image, which reflects TMFC’s determination, will give the players an added boost in their performance throughout the season.
Football portal – a football mania must-see
Besides the new look, 2006/2007 season also sees another new attraction to the football fans out there, a newly-developed football portal called tmfootballchannel.com. The portal, at www.tmfootballchannel.com offers the most comprehensive coverage of local football. It features latest news on the players and teams, updates, scores, predictions as well as a Match of the Week segment that discusses about the upcoming matches. Latest news on international football leagues will also be available on the portal in the near future. In addition, it also has interactive elements such as football forums and Fantasy Football League.
