TM EMPLOYEES SHOW THEY CARE
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) employees showed their caring side when they came together to help a fellow employee’s son to undergo an operation in Australia this month.
Muhammad Azuan Harris B Mohd Alias, 15, was diagnosed with a rare chronic growth called Proteus Syndrome at the tender of age of two. He has undergone several surgeries both locally and overseas to remove the growth. However, the growth has persisted and another surgery will be done in Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide, Australia. His father, a technician with TM appealed to TM employees to assist his son.
TM’s Badan Kebajikan Islam (BAKIT) spearheaded the donation drive and the overwhelming generosity of TM employees saw the amount collected rise to RM18,000. As Azuan only needs RM16,000 for his 3-month stay at Adelaide, only RM11,000 will be taken from the fund. As a caring employer, TM Group is contributing the balance of RM5,000 towards Azuan’s stay.
The balance from the amount collected will remain in the fund for Azuan’s future follow-up treatments. To facilitate the donation, employees were encouraged to bank in the money directly to the BAKIT account meant for Azuan. In addition, a donation box was placed at Menara TM, the headquarters, to make it easy for employees to make their contributions.
Malaysia Airlines is sponsoring the flight tickets for Azuan and his parents to Adelaide.
“It is gratifying to note that our employees have come together quickly in a time of need to help this unfortunate child. We at TM encourage our employees to participate in charitable drives as well as volunteering for good causes. We wish Azuan a safe surgery and a speedy recovery,” said Dato’ Abdul Aziz Abu Bakar, Senior Vice President of Group HR, TM.
“This charitable drive is a by-product of TM’s larger Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) culture. We at TM adopt a three-pronged platform towards our CSR initiatives, namely support of community and nation building activities, education and sports. Our employees’ contribution for Azuan reinforces TM’s role in contributing to the well being of the community and society at large,” added Dato’ Abdul Aziz.
Dato’ Abdul Aziz who is also the Advisor of BAKIT bade farewell to Azuan and his family at KLIA this evening. BAKIT is the Muslim employees body that carries out charitable and religious activities in an effort to instill good values amongst employees.
