TM’S ‘SYOKNYA RAYA’ IS BACK!

Once again, in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya and Deepavali festivities, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) will continue with its tradition of conducting the “Syoknya Raya” programme as part of the festive celebrations.

Targeted at all those who celebrate Hari Raya and Deepavali as well as Malaysians generally, this programme is aimed at forging closer relationships between TM and the community at large. The programme also demonstrates TM’s corporate stance as a socially responsible organisation that cares for the public and promotes racial unity.

“Syoknya Raya” is a community based roadshow programme by TM conducted in semi urban areas and urban areas for the period of 29 September until 16 October 2006.  This is a continuation of the previous “Syoknya Raya” programme, and this time around, it is the third straight year the double festivities of Hari Raya and Deepavali are being celebrated. The programme sees encouraging and overwhelming response from the public towards its activities and TM is expecting to receive an even better response this time around.

Adding excitement to the celebrations this year, contestants of ‘Mentor’ and ‘One in a Million’, talent search reality programmes, entertained the audience before joining Dato’ Abdul Wahid Omar, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM in flagging-off the jeeps of Syoknya Raya today at Menara TM, Jalan Pantai Baharu.

There will be three teams in three jeeps touring Malaysia and stop at the identified locations. Two jeeps will tour Peninsular Malaysia while the third jeep will go to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak.

The three teams, supervised by TM personnel, will stop at every identified location for approximately an hour.  The locations include outside TMpoints, shopping centres and Pasar Ramadhan.  During the stop, a host of interesting games and activities will be conducted such as ketupat weaving, sari tying, making deeparaya cookies and lemang, seni khat contest and Indian dance competition. There will be also a ‘kuddam’ telematch which requires participants to balance a water pot on their heads.

In addition, simple quizzes on TM Group’s products and services will also see contestants walking away with attractive prizes such as Kadfon, iTalk Cards, Ring Ring Cards, TM Net prepaid cards as well as TM and “Syoknya Raya” merchandise.  Besides that, ‘Duit Raya’ and festive savouries such as dates and chocolates will be given away especially to kids and old folks.

To further liven the festive mood, Hari Raya songs as well as TM’s Hari Raya and Deepavali TV commercials will be played throughout the visits to the various locations.

A campaign of the same nature was also held during this year’s Chinese New Year celebration, named “Syoknya Fatt Choy”.

The designated locations for this year’s “Syoknya Raya” programme is attached in Appendix 1.
