TMIM TO LAUNCH GUIDE FOR TOURISTS
TM Info-Media Sdn Bhd (TMIM), formerly known as Telekom Publications Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today inked an agreement with Pempena Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Tourism Malaysia, to co-produce the Malaysian Tourist Pages (MTP) for the next five years beginning 2007.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Nasser Abu Bakar, Chief Executive Officer of TMIM said, “This partnership capitalizes on both companies’ inherent expertise and information management strengths to derive a product that will benefit users and listed merchants alike. With tourism being one of the major economic contributors to the country, a publication such as the MTP will be a boon to visitors, both local and foreign.”
MTP is a comprehensive directory, both in printed and electronic versions, containing pertinent and valuable information about the tourism spectrum of Malaysia. It is a guide with descriptions of all the states in Malaysia depicting colourful pictures of favourite tourist attractions and destinations, listing of accommodations and tourism related businesses, namely airlines, travel agents, shopping centres, dining spots, entertainment and other tourism related activities. Well-presented and with the latest up-dated information, MTP is designed to assist local and foreign tourists in their traveling and buying decisions.
With tourists generating an average spend of over RM2000 per stay, Malaysian tourism-related businesses will greatly benefit from tourist arrivals into their premises. And the MTP is here to assist tourists in finding these businesses. Hotels and resorts are set to gain the most because accommodation accounts for the largest portion of this average spend.
“This collaboration is also timely. We are looking forward to Visit Malaysia Year 2007, where we will see MTP as the official tourism directory, a promotion channel that showcases the best of Malaysia’s tourist destinations, products and services. With shopping, sports and recreation, fashion, dining, and many, many other listings, the MTP is set to guide the estimated 16 million or so tourists in their destinations, travels and purchases,” added Nasser.
The first issue of the directory will highlight and be geared towards the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign and the nation’s 50th year of independence, reinforcing the promotional initiatives undertaken by the Government in increasing the number of visitors to Malaysia.
A total of 140,000 copies of MTP will be distributed for free at Tourism Malaysia offices nationwide and overseas, Tourism Malaysia information counters nationwide, MAS offices, all major hotels, points of entry (jetties and airports), travel agencies, shopping complexes, foreign embassies and high commissions as well as TM Info-Media branch offices. The directories are printed in A4 and A5 sizes to cater to tourists and distribution point requirements, and will be distributed in the fourth quarter of this year.
The signing today affirms both parties’ commitment to provide an information platform for Malaysian tourism-related businesses, which generate more earnings for the country and promote Malaysia to the world as a quality destination.
