ANOTHER EXCITING FOOTBALL PROGRAM BY TM

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) once again comes forward in opening up possibilities for the public as part of its social contributions to society.

TM today unveiled an exciting program called “MyTeam”. Fully sponsored by TM, this talent search reality program seeks to discover talented football players from among the ranks of amateur football players in the country. Through the program, TM aims to promote, excite and liven up the spirit of football among Malaysians from all walks of life throughout the whole country.

The “MyTeam” program will allow the organisers to source for skilful and talented football players throughout the country. Three best players from each state will be identified through various trials prior to undergoing intensive training with the aim of taking on the Malaysian national football team. The selection process will cover a period or 4 months beginning February 2006. To entice the public to join the trials, a carnival will be held in each state. Interesting games will be held and famous artistes are set to perform during the carnivals.

“Our participation in this project complements our commitment to advance the development of sports, especially that of football in the country. As the title sponsor of Liga Malaysia, and coupled with our collaboration with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), we have helped boost the popularity of this sport amongst the local population,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Md. Radzi Mansor, Chairman of TM.

By organising such activities, TM intends to encourage today’s youth to inculcate a lifestyle of healthy activities through sports. This also answers the Government’s call for youths to be active participants in character building activities and not to be involved in unhealthy recreational pursuits.

TM’s subsidiary, Celcom also plays an active role in the Group’s focus towards the development of football in the country. Celcom’s notable initiatives include the establishment of the Celcom Arsenal Football School, that aims to unearth young talents from amongst school children and the inter-university Unileague, with the objective of promoting sports competition and a healthy lifestyle among tertiary students in institutions of higher learning. Celcom’s Futsal Fiesta program recently took futsal to another level, with the introduction of Liga Celcom Futsal Malaysia 2005/2006. It is the first National Futsal League in Malaysia which promotes futsal as sanctioned by the international football body – FIFA. As a fast growing popular sport , futsal is seen as a springboard to regular football.

TM’s commitment to sports development is not only limited to football but extends to the Group’s support in cycling as evidenced by its long association with Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) as the title sponsor for the event.

“In line with our aspiration to be one of the leading communication companies in the region, Le Tour de Langkawi presents the perfect platform to bring the TM brand to the international arena. On top of that, the 10-day event creates a lot of on-the-ground excitement with the public, such as sales activities, concerts, games and freebie giveaways,” added Tan Sri.

In addition to sports, TM also focuses its CSR on two other platforms – education and nation-building. As for its education platform, the bulk of the contribution goes to TM’s education facilities namely Multimedia University (MMU), TM Multimedia College (MMC) and the Yayasan TM (TM Foundation) to facilitate the education and training of the nation’s ICT workforce as well as to provide grants/funds for bright and needy students. As a responsible caring corporate citizen, TM continues to play a major role in contributing to the well-being of the community and society at large with the aim of reducing the digital divide through its various Universal Service Provisioning (USP) projects in providing for rural telephony. Complementing this further, TM actively conducts rural ICT awareness clinics to bring these communities into the mainstream of economic activity.
