TM BRINGS 'SYOKNYA RAYA' TO THE PUBLIC

Once again, in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya and Deepavali festivities, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) will hold a campaign aptly called “Syoknya Raya” as part of the festive celebrations.

“Syoknya Raya” is a community based programme by TM conducted in semi urban areas and urban areas for the period of 6 October 2005 until 29 October 2005. This is a continuation of the previous “Syoknya Raya” programme, which has been held for the past two years for the Hari Raya celebrations and this time around, for the second straight year for the double festive Hari Raya and Deepavali celebrations. The programme sees encouraging and overwhelming response from the public towards its activities and TM is expecting to receive an even better response this year around.

To kick start this year’s campaign, Dato’ Abdul Wahid Omar, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM flagged-off the “Syoknya Raya” jeeps at Menara TM, Jalan Pantai Baharu. Two jeeps will tour Peninsular Malaysia and stop at identified locations while the third jeep will tour Sabah and Sarawak. This is the first time the team will travel to East Malaysia to bring this programme to the local communities there.

Targeted at all those who celebrate Hari Raya and Deepavali as well as Malaysians generally, this programme is aimed at forging closer relationships between TM and the community at large. The programme also demonstrates TM’s corporate stance as a socially responsible organisation that cares for the public and promotes racial unity.

The three teams, supervised by TM personnel, will stop at every identified location for approximately an hour. The locations include outside TMpoint outlets, shopping centres and Ramadhan Bazaar. During the stop, a host of interesting games and activities will be conducted such as joget or bharatanatyam where contestants can either do a Malay dance or an Indian dance, participate in sari tying, juggling and silat style contests.

In addition, simple quizzes on TM Group’s products and services will also see contestants walking away with attractive prizes such as Nokia handphones with Celcom Xpax starter packs, Ring Ring Duit Raya, Kadfon, iTalk Cards, TM Net prepaid cards, Celcom reload cards, Menara KL observation deck tickets as well as TM and “Syoknya Raya” merchandise. ‘Duit Raya’ and festive savouries such as dates and ‘muruku’ will also be given away especially to kids and old folks.

To further liven the festive mood, Hari Raya songs as well as TM’s Hari Raya and Deepavali TV commercials will be played throughout the visits to the various locations.

To add further excitement to this programme, a TV3 crew will follow the jeeps and record the activities at each stop. This will then be aired every night on the Buletin Utama news segment from 8 to 9 p.m.

A campaign of the same nature was also held during this year’s Chinese New Year celebration, named “Syoknya Fatt Choy”.

The venue for this year’s “Syoknya Raya” programme is hereby attached in Appendix 1.
