TELEKOM MALAYSIA BRINGS 'SYOKNYA RAYA' TO THE PUBLIC
Kuala Lumpur, Monday, 18 October
2004 - In conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya and Deepavali
festivities, Telekom Malaysia has started a community-oriented
programme aptly called "Syoknya Raya" as part of
its festive celebration.
"Syoknya Raya" is a community
programme conducted in semi urban areas and lay-by locations
(smaller R&R sites along North South Express Highway by
Telekom Malaysia for the period of 18 October 2004 until 13
November 2004. This is a continuation of the previous "Syoknya
Raya" programme which was held during last year's Hari
Raya celebration. Last year, the programme received encouraging
response from the public. For this year, Telekom Malaysia
expects to receive an overwhelming response from the public
as it coincides with two major festivals.
Targeted at all those who celebrate Hari
Raya and Deepavali as well as Malaysians generally, this programme
is aimed at building a closer relationship between Telekom
Malaysia and the community at large. The programme also demonstrates
Telekom Malaysia's corporate stance as an organisation that
cares for the public and promotes the various festivals that
make this country unique.
A total of two teams comprising 8 members
each supervised by Telekom Malaysia personnel will stop at
every identified area for approximately an hour outside shopping
areas and Bazaar Ramadhan. During the stop, a host of interesting
games such as joget or bharatanatyam dance in which contestants
can either do a malay joget or Indian bharatanatyam dance;
ketupat weaving and jasmine garland making contest as well
as kuih raya contest in which contestants will be given a
name of either a malay or Indian kuih and asked to sing a
Malay or Tamil song using only the kuih name as lyrics will
be held.
In addition, simple quizzes on Telekom
Malaysia's products and services will also see contestants
walking away with attractive prizes such as Nokia handphones
with a Celcom starter pack, fixed line prepaid calling cards
namely Ring Ring Card and Kadfon, and "Syoknya Raya"
merchandise. 'Duit raya' and festive savouries such as dates,
"muruku" and sweet candies will be given away especially
to the kids and old folks.
To liven the festive mood, Hari Raya songs
as well as Telekom Malaysia's Hari Raya and Deepavali TV commercials
will be played throughout the stop.
To add further excitement to this programme,
a TV3 crew will follow the jeeps and record the activities
at each stop. This will then be aired every night on the Buletin
Utama news segment from 8 to 9 pm.
The stops and lay-by areas for this year's "Syoknya Raya"
