With only a few hours to go until the 2010 FIFA World Cup coming to an end, Telekom Malaysia (TM) will heat up the football fever to the football fever already ensuing Malaysians with the much anticipated Grand Final of the “TM 10 Million Ringgit Kick Challenge” in Bukit Bintang which closes the curtain on TM’s World Football Heroes nationwide roadshow.
With the total number of visitors from all ten (10) venues exceeding the staggering 300,000 mark, the last leg’s venue – Bukit Bintang – is sure to add in to the figure.
Datuk Bazlan Osman, Executive Director / Group Chief Financial Officer, TM, shared: “We never thought that it would be an instant hit as it is today. We have had over 10,000 participants covering a span of 10 states in Peninsular Malaysia. 320,000 people attended the carnival and joined the activities. An excellent response! Each state was magnanimous in their support and without their hospitality and graciousness; it would not have been a success.”
During the roadshow, TM received the highest attendance in Melaka with more than 50,000 visitors, while the Selangor leg saw the highest number of participation in the kick challenge with 1,741 participants in total.
Held as part of the TM’s World Football Heroes Carnival nationwide roadshow, the “TM 10 Million Ringgit Kick Challenge” invites football loving participants to put their goal scoring skills to the ultimate test by scoring the most goals within the allotted time of 2 minutes. The current standing record of 69 goals is held by Faizat Maidin from Kedah.
Datuk Bazlan Osman also added that the event is another effort by TM to reinforce its commitment in thriving Malaysian’s passion for football.
As the world had witnessed the twists and dramas of the on-going FIFA World Cup 2010 tournament in South Africa, the final edition of this challenge will also have its share of twists and dramas. The ten (10) finalists’ skills at goal scoring will definitely be put to the ultimate test as the road to walking away with RM1 million won’t be an easy one.
During the finals, instead of going against the clock, the participants’ are required to take 3 successive kicks into 3 different target holes of different sizes from 36-feet (10.9 meters) away. Each participant will be given only one chance for each target. Only the finalists with perfect kicks to all three (3) target holes will walk away with a cash prize of RM1 million!

Apart from the Grand Finals, TM also lined up a variety of top-class entertainment to keep fans happy throughout the event which started as early as 10.00 am and will end as soon as the final whistle of the final World Cup match between Spain and Holland is blown.
Popular guest artistes such as Faizal Tahir, Sixth Sense and the ever popular Bunkface also entertained football fans and visitors at the event together with 30cents, SoulStarz, Wakaka Dance Group, DJ Rohan aka Phat Boy. The public was thrilled by the appearances and antics of street performers, street magicians, mime artistes, clowns, stilt walkers and fire eaters who also injected a carnival-like feel at the event.
Apart from that, there were also interactive fun and games – where visitors showed off their skills at foosball and Playstation 3 games, football trivia challenges, performances by live bands and street performers, plus, sales counter for TM’s products and services such as UniFi, Streamyx and iTalk prepaid calling cards.
That’s not all, earlier in the day, football fans who missed out on the kick challenge at previous roadshows also had a chance to participate in a special edition of the kick challenge called the “TM Fanatic Kick Challenge”. Running for one day only, from 10.00 am till 6.00 pm, this edition followed the original format of scoring the most goals within an allotted time. The winner of this challenge stood a chance to bring home RM 1,000 in cash. To participate, members of the public were required to purchase RM30 iTalk pre-paid calling card or subscribe to TM’s Streamyx package of 1Mbps or higher. The challenge was opened to all new TM customers except for professional and semi professional footballers.
The event was further hyped up with a lot of exciting activities by Everyone Connects (EC). The public who registered as EC fan on facebook also participated in the Cheer and Face Painting contests to win exclusive prizes, on top of other on ground contests.
